A group of NHS trusts in the North East has launched market engagement for a 15-year strategic construction programme worth up to \u00a33bn.<\/p>\n

The Great North Healthcare Alliance, formed by The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, has issued a preliminary notice ahead of formal procurement beginning in early 2026.<\/p>\n

The scheme will focus on tackling backlog maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, while supporting service transformation, net-zero goals and increased use of digital healthcare. It will also aim to bolster regional economic growth and workforce skills.<\/p>\n

While early estimates suggest a value of \u00a3500m to \u00a3600m (excluding VAT) over the next four years, the Alliance said the full programme could ultimately reach up to \u00a33bn, subject to funding.<\/p>\n

Individual contracts will be procured separately and are likely to include both technical and construction services.<\/p>\n

In a 2 July preliminary market engagement notice, the Alliance said it aims to go further than its current work programme, which has included projects such as a Community Diagnostic Centre at the Metro Centre at Gateshead.<\/p>\n

An engagement session will take place in Newcastle on 11 July.<\/p>\n

Interested suppliers are asked to contact ly**********<\/span>@*<\/span>hs.net<\/span>“>Lynsey Allan<\/a> at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The engagement window is open until 31 December 2025.<\/p>\n

The contracting authorities plan to publish the tender notice by January 2026, with construction starting from April 2026 and running to 2041.<\/p>\n
