Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has proudly acknowledged his Igbo heritage while celebrating a historic moment at the club, Soccernet.ng<\/a> reports.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Nmecha has shared the pitch with fellow player of Igbo descent, Carney Chukwuemeka, which makes them the first two Igbo players to feature for the German giants at the same time.<\/p>\n Chukwuemeka joined the Black and Yellow on a season-ending loan from Chelsea FC during the winter transfer window and has made a positive impression at the club alongside his Nigerian compatriot.<\/p>\n In a recent chat with Afro Ballers<\/a>, Nmecha opened up about the significance of this milestone, not only to him personally but also to the wider Igbo community.<\/p>\n \u201cI think for me it’s very special,\u201d Nmecha said. \u201cI was speaking to [Chukwuemeka] about it \u2014 I think we’ve never had two Igbo players playing for Dortmund at the same time before.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Nmecha, whose father hails from Nigeria, expressed a deep sense of pride and connection to his Igbo roots.<\/p>\n \u201cI’m very connected and close to where I come from. My dad\u2019s obviously Igbo, and we share that passion for our people. It\u2019s nice to have another Igbo and Nigerian player to play together with \u2014 the connection is strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The 24-year-old’s identity goes beyond football; he has also embraced Nigerian culture through music, food, and language.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I\u2019m very, very connected, just in the sense of, like you said, the music, the food.
