Local businessman Errol Langton has clapped at critics who questioned his decision to go to the US as an \u201cAfrikaner refugee\u201d.<\/p>\n

This comes as many South Africans\u00a0 \u2013 including his stepdaughter \u2013 have questioned his claims of being a \u201cfarmer\u201d and an \u201cAfrikaner\u201d. Many have also called him \u201copportunistic\u201d for wanting to start again in another country.<\/p>\n

Errol and eight of his family members arrived in the US this week and are planning to settle down in Alabama.<\/p>\n

AFRIKANER REFUGEE\u2019S JOB TITLE LEAVES SA CONFUSED<\/h2>\n

Speaking to the New York Times<\/a><\/em> about being a \u201crefugee\u201d, Errol Langton described himself as a \u201cfarmer\u201d from KwaZulu-Natal\u2019s coastal town of Hibberdene.\u00a0 There, he supposedly grew spinach, mustard, Swiss chard, and sweet potatoes.<\/p>\n

Errol has chosen to settle in Birmingham, located in Alabama, the same city his brother immigrated to years before.<\/p>\n

However, Errol has decided to take up an \u201cIT job\u201d in the sector he coincidentally worked in and owned a large-scale business back in South Africa.<\/p>\n

On social media, South Africans have labelled the \u201cAfrikaner refugee\u201d as \u201copportunistic\u201d.<\/p>\n

Social commentator Bianca van Wyk said: \u201cHow odd! A farmer who is now working an IT job in Birmingham! Mr Langton\u2026you ran an IT company in South Africa. You have never farmed. Why are you blatantly lying?\u201d<\/p>\n

TikToker user @sinnedbad jumped into the comments, posting: \u201cI worked with Errol as an Account Executive at an IT company in Sandton.\u201d<\/p>\n

Errol\u2019s stepdaughter, Geneve Gouws, also questioned his decision to leave South Africa.<\/p>\n

She said in a TikTok this week:<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m completely shocked. What do they need protection from exactly? They\u2019re not even Afrikaners.\u201d<\/p>\n

The young woman went on to claim that Errol \u201clied\u201d in his application to become a \u201crefugee\u201d.<\/p>\n

She also believed that his claims of being a \u201cvictim of crime\u201d were a result of domestic abuse incidents with her mother, whom he has since divorced.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat lie do you have to tell to get to America?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u2018HATERS GONNA HATE\u2019<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the New York Times<\/em>, Errol Langton stated that while it was \u201cterrible \u201cto be labeled as traitors and sellouts\u201d, he added that \u201chaters are going to hate\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since then, the \u201crefugee\u201d has posted a TikTok video \u2013 in an apparent American accent \u2013 from his \u201cnew home in the USA\u201d.<\/p>\n

Defending his actions, he said, \u201cI am of Afrikaner descent. My family made a decision a long time ago not to speak Afrikaans and switched to English.<\/p>\n

While his LinkedIn account lists him as the owner of an IT business, Langton also claims that he was indeed a farmer.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI did farming. I owned a farm or at least leased a farm for more than three years, where I farmed with the leafy greens and tried to get commercial farming up and running\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cSo tell me, why don\u2019t I qualify for this programme?<\/p>\n

\u201cI may speak English and be two generations away from being actively Afrikaans. But I am a South African Afrikaner, and that is a fact.\u201d<\/p>\n
