With some last-second heroics from young striker Markus Anderson<\/a>, the Philadelphia Union<\/a> continued their MLS-leading hot streak.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Anderson\u2019s goal late in second-half stoppage time, the latest game-winning goal in club history at 97:58, secured a 2-1 win<\/a> for the Union over Charlotte FC<\/a>, elevating Philly to the top of the Supporters\u2019 Shield standings and preserving their 10-match unbeaten streak \u2014 the longest in club history.<\/p>\n \u201cI think there’s momentum, there’s belief, there’s energy, there’s cohesion, there’s commitment to each other as teammates,\u201d head coach Bradley Carnell said after the game.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Without Tai Baribo<\/a> and Mikael Uhre<\/a>, who are both dealing with injuries, and Quinn Sullivan<\/a>, who is away on national team duty, the Union turned elsewhere for their attacking production. Jes\u00fas Bueno<\/a> notched his first goal of the season to kick things off, while 19-year-old Frankie Westfield<\/a> added the assist on Anderson\u2019s game-winner.<\/p>\n As they\u2019ve often done in the past, the Union relied on youthful depth to fill gaps and maintain their torrid start to the campaign.<\/p>\n Carnell noted the club\u2019s recent friendly victory over Liga MX side Atlas FC proved a valuable testing ground. Anderson appeared as a substitute in that game and scored quickly on a strike from outside the box.<\/p>\n \u201cThe squad\u2019s very thin at the moment with all the guys out and all the guys traveling,\u201d Carnell said. \u201cSo we dug deep there against Atlas, and that gave us a base and a foundation, and it gave us looks at different guys. Credit to everyone who played a part today.\u201d<\/p>\n Anderson\u2019s winner, his first MLS goal, offset Wilfried Zaha<\/a>\u2019s 78th-minute strike. Westfield and fellow substitute Cavan Sullivan<\/a> combined to create late pressure on Charlotte\u2019s backline, leading to Anderson\u2019s half-volley into the bottom corner.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve shown that we believe in every player on the roster,\u201d Carnell said.<\/p>\n \u201cOur starters trust in us and our depth that we have on the team, but they also know that everyone’s going for a spot,\u201d the 15-year-old Sullivan said. \u201cSo there’s sort of this unselfishness for the team but a selfishness to try to earn your spot.
