Among the 241 Air India crash victims<\/a> was a Gujarati mother of an 8-year-old boy, Abdhiben Patel, who was very reluctant to travel to India, leaving her young son behind for the first time.<\/p>\n

According to her colleague, Abdhiben, known as Abdhi, had flown to India just two weeks earlier to care for her elderly mother, but was hesitant to make the trip.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn\u2019t want to go,\u201d said Atif Karim, 45, her colleague and close friend at Zone Beauty Studio in Northampton, told the news agency PA.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe told me, \u2018I just don\u2019t like being away from him\u2019. It was her first time leaving him, and she was very nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Atif shared that although Abdhi wasn\u2019t excited about the trip, \u201cit was a sense of duty. Her mum was unwell, but you could tell it was weighing on her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Totally devoted to him\u2019<\/h2>\n

Atif Karim shared that the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to flight cancellations and uncertainty, had also added to Abdhi’s worries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAll the flights were getting cancelled. It didn\u2019t feel like the right time,\u201d he said, sharing that her husband Pankaj worked night shifts.<\/p>\n

Abdhi was inseparable from their son Meer, he said. \u201cShe kept saying how shy and reserved he is, how attached they were. She was totally devoted to him \u2013 her entire world revolved around him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abdhiben Patel had planned to return to work on Saturday. On Wednesday, the day before the crash, she messaged Atif to check in about a task and offer to help finish it remotely.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018Do you want me to finish that?\u2019 and later, \u2018Don\u2019t worry, I\u2019ll sort it,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cThat was the last I heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Who was Abdhiben Patel?<\/h2>\n

Originally from Gujarat, she moved to the UK in 2012 and joined the salon in 2016. She worked her way up over the years and had been managing the business for the last three.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cShe was the most diligent, reliable worker I\u2019ve ever had,\u201d Atif said. \u201cBut more than that, she was our friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was bubbly, kind, always smiling \u2013 she had a way of putting people at ease and always took a genuine interest in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe got on with everyone and left a real mark on the people she worked with and the customers she served.<\/p>\n
