{"id":855000,"date":"2025-06-12T00:13:29","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T05:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/12\/meet-the-2-influencers-turning-gen-z-into-a-new-generation-of-jesus-freaks\/"},"modified":"2025-06-12T00:13:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T05:13:29","slug":"meet-the-2-influencers-turning-gen-z-into-a-new-generation-of-jesus-freaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/12\/meet-the-2-influencers-turning-gen-z-into-a-new-generation-of-jesus-freaks\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the 2 Influencers Turning Gen Z into a New Generation of Jesus Freaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two Christian influencers, Ally Yost and Ashley Hetherington, are using their combined five million followers to bring faith to Gen Z through their YouTube reality series Jesus Freaks, which offers an unfiltered look at Christian living&#8230;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A pair of 20-something social media influencers are combining their clout with their faith in a push to turn Gen Z into a new generation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/jesus\/\">Jesus<\/a> freaks. <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ally Yost and Ashley Hetherington last year launched a YouTube series, <em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/jesus\/\">Jesus<\/a> Freaks,<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that follows their lives as two Christian women living in Los Angeles, navigating faith, friendships, and culture in a city not exactly known for biblical values. It&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been streamed<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0more than one million times &#8212; an impressive number that was born out of their combined 5 million followers across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yost and Hetherington shared their testimony this month on CBN&#8217;s <em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">700 Club<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, saying they wanted to see a faith presence on a specific genre\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8212;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0reality TV\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8212;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that is often dominated by raunch.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Growing up, I would watch these shows where people would be partying and doing things that were not godly,&#8221; Hetherington told CBN. &#8220;And I would go, &#8216;Okay, when I grow up, I&#8217;m going to do that because that&#8217;s what you do.&#8217; <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">And so the Lord\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">put a burden on<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0my heart for this next\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">gen<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, because they don&#8217;t have much to look to, except for what culture is saying.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">God &#8220;downloaded&#8221; the idea to Hetherington&#8217;s heart, she said, to launch a faith-based series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DDhP7bdpvKH\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<div>\n<p>View this post on Instagram<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DDhP7bdpvKH\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" target=\"_blank\">A post shared by Jesus Freaks (@jesusfreakstv)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I was like, &#8216;Okay, God, I don&#8217;t know who&#8217;s going to be doing that with me.'&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The two women already had built reputations as bold social media voices for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/jesus\/\">Jesus<\/a> when <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hetherington felt prompted by God<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0to reach out to Yost.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0They met over coffee in Nashville and instantly clicked. The two then moved to Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We just found each other on Instagram,&#8221; Yost said. &#8220;I think it was one of those things where we both were doing the same thing &#8212; \u00a0online ministry and just talking about our faith. I had seen Ashley&#8217;s content, and she had already seen mine, and we connected, and we just were each other&#8217;s hype girls.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Their posts cover everything from skincare<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, clothing and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0day-to-day life\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8212; but<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0lean heavily on their faith, highlighting what they&#8217;re reading in Scripture, new music they&#8217;ve heard, and their personal testimonies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They take their massive followings on social media seriously.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The only thing that grounds me is just locking eyes with Jesus because it can be tempting when <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">there&#8217;s other voices and other things coming<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in,&#8221; Yost said. &#8220;But when you look at the Lord, it\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">really<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0just takes all the pressure off.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sometimes, they receive pushback for their stances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;When God puts a message on my heart, on Ali&#8217;s heart, it&#8217;s our job to be obedient, to share it &#8212; even if it doesn&#8217;t hit, even if it doesn&#8217;t go viral, or even if it offends people,&#8221; Hetherington said. &#8220;There&#8217;s been things I&#8217;ve posted [that] offended a lot of people, but I&#8217;m like, &#8216;God told me to post it, so I have to be obedient, even if I get scrutiny.'&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vulnerability is <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">important<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Yost added.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;If we&#8217;re not willing to show all the things of our life, I just don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s going to be nearly as impactful,&#8221; she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Meanwhile, the two women are preparing for Season 2 of the series. <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Their long-term goal, Hetherington said, is to partner with a mainstream streaming platform &#8220;so it can truly be an evangelistic tool to reach people<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,&#8221; Hetherington said.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Even if they don&#8217;t follow Jesus, they&#8217;re like, &#8216;Wow, I feel something different through this show versus the other shows I was watching.'&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">WATCH:\u00a0<\/span>Two IMPOSSIBLE Friends + One INSANE Idea = Jesus Freaks TV<\/h2>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mpcuxJ1-meo?si=AeTCQ9isda-XYwR3\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span>Photo Credit: \u00a9Jesus Freaks<\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Michael Foust<\/strong> has covered the intersection of faith and news for 20 years.
