Lower activity levels and \u201cwidespread\u201d Building Safety Act (BSA)-related delays are set to hit full-year turnover at Van Elle Holdings.<\/p>\n

In a trading update this morning, the firm \u2013 ranked by Construction News <\/em>as the UK\u2019s second-largest ground engineering specialist<\/a> \u2013 said it expected revenue of \u00a3134m for the year to 30 April 2025.<\/p>\n

This would mark a 4 per cent fall from the \u00a3139.5m it reported the year before.<\/p>\n

Van Elle said the full-year forecast reflected \u201cchallenging conditions\u201d prevailing in the construction sector, although its order book increased compared with 30 April last year.<\/p>\n

The firm cited \u201cwidespread delays to contract start dates\u201d due to the ongoing impact of the \u201cwell-publicised\u201d BSA gateway approval bottleneck<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe start of several major contracts which were due to commence in the final quarter of FY25 [financial year 2025] have now been deferred into FY26, impacting the final quarter performance,\u201d Van Elle added.<\/p>\n

However, the firm said its order book increased by \u00a36.4m year on year to reach \u00a341.5m by 30 April \u2013 and Van Elle\u2019s piling division also won a \u00a310m deal in May.<\/p>\n

Its interim results, released on 29 January, described a 4 per cent drop in revenue to \u00a365.2m, while pre-tax profit fell by a quarter to \u00a31.9m.<\/p>\n

In a trading update in March, the firm said that activity \u201cremained surpressed throughout January and February\u201d because of BSA-related delays.<\/p>\n

These delays primarily impacted trading for Van Elle\u2019s subsidiary Rock & Alluvium<\/a>, which focuses on high-rise residential schemes in London and South East England.<\/p>\n

Van Elle said in March that it was involved in more than 40 projects that remained in the approvals process. It was expected most would begin construction in the firm\u2019s 2026 financial year.<\/p>\n

The firm envisaged underlying pre-tax profit of \u00a33.5m in its latest trading update, down from the \u00a34.2m it posted last year.<\/p>\n

It said a \u201cfocus on cash management\u201d and cost-reduction initiatives will help deliver a \u201cstrong operational performance\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last month, for instance, the company announced the sale of its HGV fleet<\/a> in a \u00a32.9m deal with WS Specialist Logistics Ltd.<\/p>\n

Van Elle said net cash at 30 April totalled \u00a31m, down from \u00a35.5m on a year-by-year basis because of \u201cinvestment for growth in capital equipment\u201d and the acquisitions of Rock & Alluvium and Albion Drilling<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The firm\u2019s current \u00a38m funding facility still has \u00a36.5m available for drawdown, it added, \u201cproviding significant liquidity headroom\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
