{"id":853601,"date":"2025-06-05T19:13:17","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T00:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/05\/dont-expect-the-penguin-season-2\/"},"modified":"2025-06-05T19:13:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T00:13:17","slug":"dont-expect-the-penguin-season-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/05\/dont-expect-the-penguin-season-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t Expect \u201cThe Penguin\u201d Season 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/cdndark.darkhorizons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/penguin-set-for-next-two-batman-films.jpg\" data-caption=\"HBO\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/cdndark.darkhorizons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/penguin-set-for-next-two-batman-films.jpg\" alt title=\"penguin-set-for-next-two-batman-films\"><\/a><figcaption>HBO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>While HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Penguin\u201d was billed as a limited series, there was a fan push for a second season and some early chatter about it interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November last year, executive producer Matt Reeves some very preliminary discussions were underway and there was \u201can urgency\u201d from the network to know his plans, but things were too early at that point to say.<\/p>\n<p>Cut to today though and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/05\/the-penguin-emmy-submissions-colin-farrell-lead-actor-1236399445\/\">Deadline<\/a> reports that HBO is submitting \u201cThe Penguin\u201d for Emmy awards consideration under the Outstanding Limited Series category as opposed to the Outstanding Drama Series category which is for ongoing shows.<\/p>\n<p>Actors Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, and Deirdre O\u2019Connell along with showrunner Lauren LeFranc are all being submitted for acting awards consideration.<\/p>\n<p>This is significant as it strongly suggests HBO has no plans at all for a second season presently.  Emmy filing consideration is how \u201cShogun\u201d was revealed to be getting a second season when it filed its considerations under Drama Series rather than Limited Series categories.<\/p>\n<p>Occasionally though, shows that were nominated\/won in the limited series categories have scored additional seasons \u2013 most notably HBO\u2019s \u201cBig Little Lies\u201d \u2013 so it\u2019s not definitively ruled out, just highly unlikely at present.<\/p>\n<p>Emmys are set to be interesting this year with the Drama Series category quite cutthroat as \u201cSeverance,\u201d \u201cAndor,\u201d \u201cThe Last of Us,\u201d \u201cThe Pitt,\u201d \u201cThe White Lotus,\u201d \u201cThe Diplomat,\u201d \u201cSlow Horses,\u201d \u201cParadise,\u201d \u201cInterview with the Vampire,\u201d \u201cSquid Game\u201d and \u201cMatlock\u201d all have serious potential.<\/p>\n<p>On the limited series front things are much less competitive, as \u201cThe Penguin\u201d will very likely get nominated but have to compete only with \u201cAdolescence,\u201d \u201cMonsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,\u201d \u201cDying for Sex,\u201d \u201cPresumed Innocent,\u201d \u201cDisclaimer\u201d and \u201cDope Thief\u201d.
