Money raised during May 24 event at Lion’s Gate Banquet Centre will help Waverley sanctuary care for its menagerie of friendly farm animals<\/p>\n
The upcoming Sanctuary in Bloom gala for\u00a0Ralphy’s Retreat\u00a0aims to help the facility’s friendly residents, who\u00a0experienced a challenging winter as a result of what seemed like a never-ending snowfall\u00a0and widespread power outages caused the ice storm.<\/p>\n
Located just outside\u00a0Waverley, the\u00a0non-profit organization is dedicated to providing a safe haven for animals in need, according to sanctuary manager\u00a0Shannon Leguizamon.<\/p>\n
“At Ralphy’s, we strive to create a loving environment where animals can thrive and receive the care and support they deserve,\u201d Leguizamon explains.<\/p>\n
\u201cApproximately 60 per cent of our residents are aged or have some type of special needs. This year\u2019s gala emphasizes our dedication to providing comfort, care and dignity to our animals with serious health conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Over the winter months, Ralphy’s hosted a “snow-shovelling party” to help residents navigate heavy snowfalls with volunteers creating trails and then recently, the sanctuary hosted a volunteer cleanup day to help repair houses and clear debris after the ice storm.<\/p>\n
All funds raised from May 24’s Sanctuary in Bloom event will go toward\u00a0helping the friendly gang\u00a0Ralphy\u2019s Retreat.<\/a><\/p>\n With a goal towards collecting\u00a0$20,000 from next week’s event, all funds raised\u00a0will support the care and maintenance of its\u00a0animals.<\/p>\n “This isn\u2019t just another night out. It\u2019s a celebration of compassion, community, and the beautiful connections we build when we come together for a cause bigger than ourselves,” Leguizamon says.<\/p>\n “It\u2019s laughter, incredible food, dancing, auctions, and unforgettable moments \u2014 but most importantly, it\u2019s a vital fundraiser for the residents of Ralphy\u2019s Retreat Animal Sanctuary. Every life here depends on your kindness. Your ticket doesn\u2019t just buy you a seat at the table \u2014 it helps fill food bowls, cover vet care, and keep our sanctuary family safe and loved.”<\/p>\n Held at the Lion’s Gate Banquet Centre in Barrie, this year’s gala will feature\u00a0fine vegan dining, music, an exclusive silent auction and special guest speaker, Kristen Hartness of Ziggy’s Refuge Farm Sanctuary.<\/p>\n With a lot of love and a little grit, Hartness and Yontz found the farmland they would shape into the beloved Ziggy’s Animal Refuge, offering a safe haven for over 70 animals of varying abilities. With a special focus on disabled farm animals and individual needs ranging from amputated legs to spina bifida, the pair offer unconditional love and support every living.
