Alsim went into administration in March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegazette.co.uk\/notice\/4833899\">according to a <em>Gazette<\/em> notice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thurston, which is owned by a London-based investment firm, said the deal will allow it to expand its cabins division and offer an extra style of temporary living accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Hull-based Alsim had been in business for 33 years and employed 52 people before experiencing financial difficulties in late 2024, according to Thurston.<\/p>\n<p>All of Alsim\u2019s staff were made redundant following its collapse, Thurston said.<\/p>\n<p>However, a spokesperson told <em>Construction News<\/em> the firm intended to \u201cengage with former employees wherever possible as the business integrates the Alsim offer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thurston\u2019s managing director Matt Goff said: \u201cAlsim has long been respected for its design expertise and customer relationships within the construction sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy acquiring its assets and IP, we\u2019re not only strengthening our own technical capability but also reinforcing our position as a trusted, forward-thinking offsite manufacturer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In March, Thurston acquired Storplan, a specialist fabrication business with a factory in York.<\/p>\n<p>Thurston was founded in 1970 and employs around 380 people across four sites in East Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>It was acquired by investment firm HLD Group in 2021 in a \u00a316m deal.<\/p>\n<p>In its last reported full-year to the end of October 2023, Thurston recorded a pre-tax profit of \u00a33.5m off turnover of \u00a351m, according to accounts filed at Companies House.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section id=\"miso-related-article-grid\">\n<p><h3>Related Article<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/modular-specialist-acquires-assets-of-failed-yorkshire-neighbour-30-05-2025\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n James Wilmore<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thurston Group has completed its second acquisition this year after buying the assets and intellectual property of a failed manufacturer of temporary living and secure accommodation units.
