and<\/li>\n<li>How Express Entry categories can increase someone\u2019s chances of receiving Canadian PR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What occupations fall under the Healthcare and Social Service Category?<\/h2>\n<p>Canada classifies occupations using the National Occupation Classification (NOC) system, which classifies jobs based on the roles and responsibilities of each occupation.<\/p>\n<p>The below table breaks down all the occupations under the augmented healthcare and social services category; For example, instead of \u201ceditor\u201d, try \u201cjournalist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Take note of the TEER number and NOC code which corresponds closely to your profession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Verify it against the Employment and Social Development Canada. (ESDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/noc.esdc.gc.ca\/\">webpage<\/a> by clicking on \u201cSearch by NOC Code\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p>Here you can input the NOC code you believe aligns with your work experience and view the \u201cmain duties\u201d section.<\/p>\n<p>Check if your work experience aligns with the actions described in the lead statement. You must have also performed a substantial number of the main duties, including all essential duties, of the occupation as set out in the NOC description.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Visit the Express Entry category-based selection page.<\/p>\n<p>Under \u201cfind out who\u2019s eligible for each category\u201d, select the \u201chealthcare and social service occupations&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Check if your occupation and the corresponding NOC code are listed. social services <\/p>\n<p>\nLife skills instructor <\/p>\n<p>\nMental health worker <\/p>\n<p>\nRehabilitation worker &#8211; social services <\/p>\n<p>\nSocial services worker <\/p>\n<p>\nVeteran services officer <\/p>\n<p>\nWelfare and compensation officer <\/p>\n<p>\nWomen&#8217;s shelter supervisor <\/p>\n<p>\nYouth worker <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Social worker  <\/td>\n<td>Coordinator of social work <\/p>\n<p>\nMedical social worker <\/p>\n<p>\nPsychiatric social worker <\/p>\n<p>\nSocial work supervisor <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>How can Express Entry categories increase someone\u2019s chances of receiving Canadian PR?<\/h2>\n<p>If you qualify for a category-based draw, you\u2019re more likely to receive an invitation to apply for PR through Express Entry, for you can be invited in a category-based draw with a significantly lower CRS score than for a general or CEC draw.<\/p>\n<p>In a category-based draw, IRCC only invites candidates who meet the category criteria, making these much less competitive than other draws.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in 2024, the CRS cut-off for general draws ranged between 524 and 549.<\/p>\n<p>However, in the same year, the CRS cut-off for the healthcare occupations ranged between 422 and 463.<\/p>\n<p>This means that candidates whose CRS scores are not high enough for general or program-specific draws may still have a higher chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) if they work in an occupation that Canada has identified as in demand.<\/p>\n<h2>How does Express Entry Work?<\/h2>\n<p>Under Canada\u2019s Express Entry system, foreign nationals cannot apply for PR directly\u2014they must first receive an invitation to apply (ITA), in addition to being eligible for one of the three federal immigration programs managed by Express Entry:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-experience-class.html\">Canadian Experience Class<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/federal-skilled-worker-program-fswp.html\">Federal Skilled Worker Program<\/a>; and<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canada-federal-skilled-trades-program-fstc.html#:~:text=Immigration%2C%20Refugees%20and%20Citizenship%20Canada,of%20Canada's%20Express%20Entry%20system.\">Federal Skilled Trades Program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Everyone needs to meet the minimum eligibility criteria for at least one of these programs to submit an Express Entry profile.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates are ranked using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/express-entry-comprehensive-ranking-system.html\">Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)<\/a>, which assigns points based on factors like age, education, work experience, and language proficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Express Entry draws take place routinely and candidates with the highest CRS scores who meet eligibility criteria are invited to apply for PR.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving an ITA, a candidate has 60 days to respond with a complete PR application.<\/p>\n<p>These draws can be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/provincial-nomination-program.html\">Provincial Nominee Program<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Program specific draws; or<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/eecategories.html\">Category-specific draws<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Category-based draws focus on individuals with specific work experience or language skills that align with Canada\u2019s economic priorities.<\/p>\n<p>This year, IRCC has announced six Express Entry categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Healthcare and social services occupations;<\/li>\n<li>Education occupations;<\/li>\n<li>Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) occupations;<\/li>\n<li>Trade occupations;<\/li>\n<li>Agriculture and agri-food occupations;
