The Nigeria international was injured in the closing stages of Nottingham Forest\u2019s 2-2 draw with Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He underwent a procedure on Monday night, with doctors placing him in a medically induced coma to limit movement and regulate his heart rate.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath, Nottingham Forest issued a strongly worded statement defending club owner Evangelos Marinakis, who stormed onto the pitch after the match.<\/p>\n

The club clarified that the severity of Awoniyi\u2019s injury prompted his reaction and dismissed reports claiming he confronted manager Nuno Esp\u00edrito Santo as \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
