{"id":851701,"date":"2025-05-28T09:11:49","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T14:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/28\/cg-fry-profit-rises-amid-high-demand-for-contracting-services\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T09:11:49","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T14:11:49","slug":"cg-fry-profit-rises-amid-high-demand-for-contracting-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/28\/cg-fry-profit-rises-amid-high-demand-for-contracting-services\/","title":{"rendered":"CG Fry profit rises amid high demand for contracting services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Pre-tax profit has risen by 18 per cent at Dorset builder CG Fry &#038; Son on the back of a bumper increase in turnover in its contracting arm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Dorchester-based company, which operates as both a contractor and residential developer, said a strong financial and operational performance last year had left it well positioned for further growth, despite the challenge posed by construction cost inflation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Profit before tax stood at \u00a312.4m, up from \u00a310.5m the year before, according to the company\u2019s newly published annual report and financial statements for the year ending 31 December 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Turnover surged from \u00a398.6m to \u00a3122.6m over the period. <\/span><span>Within that total, the contracting division turned over \u00a341m \u2013 a 57 per cent increase on the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDemand for the company\u2019s contracting services remained strong in 2024, reflecting its reputation for delivering high-quality, cost-effective work ranging from large-scale commercial projects to small-scale residential works,\u201d the directors said in a strategic report accompanying the financial results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cA healthy pipeline of tenders and new opportunities bodes well for the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last September, CG Fry was one of 22 firms to win a place on an<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/wates-and-hill-nab-spots-on-800m-mmc-framework-11-09-2024\/\"> <span>\u00a3800m modern methods of construction framework<\/span><\/a><span> led by Procurement for Housing and an alliance of housing associations backed by the National Housing Federation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Turnover in CG Fry\u2019s larger development division grew 13 per cent to \u00a382m, fuelled by an increase in private completions and staged payments from affordable housing providers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDespite broader economic challenges affecting the wider housing market, the company succeeded in growing turnover while protecting profit margins,\u201d the directors said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWith net assets exceeding \u00a3100m [\u2026] the company is in a very strong position to navigate market cycles and take advantage of opportunities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The firm had cash at hand of \u00a3270,911 at the end of last year, up from \u00a3249,970 in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>CG Fry began this year free of short-term bank debt, having owed \u00a34m at the start of 2024, although it holds a \u00a335m revolving credit facility with Lloyds Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The firm paid out \u00a31.4m in dividends last year, up from \u00a3310,000 in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Its average monthly headcount rose from 199 to 205 employees, and the annual wage bill increased from \u00a310.8m to \u00a312m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Best known for its work on the Poundbury development in Dorchester, CG Fry is currently awaiting the outcome of its appeal to the Supreme Court in a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/government\/supreme-court-to-hear-nutrient-neutrality-challenge-11-11-2024\/\"> <span>long-running dispute over nutrient neutrality rules<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The case will test whether the rules apply in cases where planning consent was granted to a development before the introduction of Natural England\u2019s guidance on the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/cn-intelligence\/companies\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/cn-intelligence\/\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/05\/CN-intelligence-article-promo-200-x-200-px.webp\" alt width=\"250\" height=\"250\"  ><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At CN Intelligence you can view and filter seven years\u2019 worth of detailed financial information on the top UK construction firms via our interactive dashboards.
