{"id":850244,"date":"2025-05-22T09:11:46","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T14:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/22\/wood-supplier-fined-40000-over-dust-exposure\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T09:11:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T14:11:46","slug":"wood-supplier-fined-40000-over-dust-exposure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/22\/wood-supplier-fined-40000-over-dust-exposure\/","title":{"rendered":"Wood supplier fined \u00a340,000 over dust exposure"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"620\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/05\/Untitled-design-768x512-1.webp\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"Untitled-design-768x512-1.webp\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A wood supplier has been fined \u00a340,000 for failing to protect its workers from exposure to wood dust.<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched an investigation into Fakenham-based Nat Pal Ltd after it discovered dust scattered across the floors of its premises, it said.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution was launched after the firm ignored previous warnings, the HSE added in a statement on Tuesday (20 May).<\/p>\n<p>The company, of Cummings Road, Tattersett Business Park, Fakenham, pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act for failing to manage the risks created by operating a wood-working business.<\/p>\n<p>It was fined \u00a340,000 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a34,072 at a hearing at Norwich Magistrates\u2019 Court on 16 May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDust was found scattered across the floor, and the inspection identified failings in the company\u2019s control measures to prevent exposure of their employees to wood dust and enforcement action was taken,\u201d the HSE said.<\/p>\n<p>Its investigation also identified \u201congoing failings\u201d in the company\u2019s control measures and found that it had \u201cfailed to take appropriate precautions despite previous enforcement on the same issues dating back to 2015\u201d, the watchdog added.<\/p>\n<p>Breathing in wood dust excessively can cause asthma and nasal cancer, the HSE said.<\/p>\n<p>Its guidance states that employers must take effective measures to prevent exposure of their employees to wood dust by providing exhaust ventilation systems, having appropriate respiratory protection and by carrying out health surveillance to monitor the respiratory health of employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fine imposed on Nat Pal Ltd should underline that HSE takes a failure to protect the health of employees extremely seriously,\u201d HSE inspector Natalie Prince said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make matters worse, this company had been visited previously and had failed to take steps to protect its workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not hesitate to take action against companies which fail to do all they can.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section id=\"miso-related-article-grid\">\n<p><h3>Related Article<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/legal\/wood-supplier-fined-40000-over-dust-exposure-21-05-2025\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Nicola Harley<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A wood supplier has been fined \u00a340,000 for failing to protect its workers from exposure to wood dust.
