For the better part of 96 minutes, it seemed like the Philadelphia Union<\/a>\u2019s 13-year winless run against the LA Galaxy<\/a> would continue.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n With two of the Union\u2019s three second-half goals, the Israeli striker continued to boost his Golden Boot presented by Audi credentials (league-leading 10 tallies), helping his team turn a 2-0 hole into a thrilling 3-2 win<\/a> at Subaru Park.<\/p>\n \u201cI really, really, really wanted to win,\u201d Baribo said postgame. \u201cI didn\u2019t care who scored, and I just wanted to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n It would have been easy for the Union to overlook a home game against the winless, last-place Galaxy. Union head coach Bradley Carnell and his staff knew they couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n While the reigning MLS Cup champions are enduring a historic run of misfortune, they\u2019re still a team the Union hadn\u2019t beaten since the 4th of July in 2012. They showed what they\u2019re capable of in the first half, jumping to a two-goal lead, fueled by a pair of assists from Marco Reus<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe knew this was going to be a really tough one,\u201d Carnell said postgame. \u201cThis was the trap of all trap games\u2026 then we helped LA get off to a flying start, where we had only ourselves to blame. But a really good response from the boys.\u201d<\/p>\n Less than three minutes after the second-half kickoff, the Union had already cut into the deficit through defender Nathan Harriel<\/a>. Two minutes later, Baribo found the equalizer before ultimately scoring the winner against an exhausted, pinned-in Galaxy defense.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had to dig deep,\u201d Carnell added. \u201cWe had to show that we are a good team. We had to show that we can come back in tough moments. We had to show that the points we gave up against Columbus [last week] was a glitch. And we also proved that we can solve puzzles in 45 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut we don\u2019t want to do this in every game. After 13 games, he has jumped clear of the competition in the Golden Boot race.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s important for everybody, but especially for a striker to get confidence,\u201d Baribo said. \u201cThe defense can see it from the other side. Sometimes it\u2019s really tight in the box, but I\u2019m always trying to put [myself] in the best position to get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to pulling ahead of some of the other top strikers from around the league, such as Chicho Arango<\/a>, Hugo Cuypers<\/a> and Brian White<\/a>, Baribo completed his third multi-goal game of 2025. He became the quickest player in Union history to reach double digits and is one of just two players in MLS averaging more than a goal per 90 minutes played.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are different ways that [Baribo] can score goals,\u201d Carnell said. \u201cOn the ground, he can make a near post run and tap them home, his movement off the shoulder finding the aerial balls like he did with the chipped ball from Mika [Uhre].\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think that just shows that he has the complete package, is unassumingly excellent in the air with the timing of his jumping, he hangs in the air. He made his fourth appearance of the season off the bench, but this time, it was more than just a cameo; the rising star was involved in the creation of Philly’s game-winner.<\/p>\n As the seconds ticked away, Sullivan kept a Union attack alive by making an excellent lobbed pass to 38-year-old Alejandro Bedoya<\/a>. He knocked the ball on for Uhre<\/a>, who ultimately got the assist on Baribo\u2019s late tally.<\/p>\n And though the pass before the secondary assist won\u2019t show up on the scoresheet, it could be an important moment as Sullivan establishes himself in MLS.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n <\/main><\/p>\n<\/div>\nAbout time<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
