One of the key factors that played into Indiana’s resurgence was the offense. Kurtis Rourke (7th round draft pick to the.49ers) led an Indiana offense that was in the top half in all Big Ten passing categories. One of Rourke’s key weapons is Elijah Sarratt, one of the top returning wide receivers in college football for the 2025 season.

Watching the tape on Sarratt from last season, there is a lot to like about his tape. Indiana has him lining up both on the outside and in the slot, but will probably have more success lining up at the X position. At 6’2″, Sarratt does a good job of using his size to his advantage, making some tough contested catches. He has adequate acceleration but knows how to get open versus defenders. Getting a good amount of back shoulder throws in his direction, Sarratt does a solid job tracking the ball and adjusting to it. He showcases good body control and play strength. He showcases ability in the blocking game, as he is a willing run blocker who rarely takes bad angles when blocking defenders.

What I’m looking for with Sarratt in 2025 is improvement in a couple of areas. Mentioned in the paragraph above, Sarratt does not have top-end acceleration or speed so that’s not too much of a concern if he knows how to get open versus defenders. Watching his tape, he does not run a variety of routes as his routes consist of a go, comeback, curl and slant route. If he can add more to his route tree, it can really boost his draft stock throughout the 2025 season.

It’s too early to make definitive predictions about where Elijah Sarratt and other 2026 NFL Draft prospects might land, but Sarratt is already appearing on way-too-early draft boards as one of the top wide receiver prospects. If he can develop the same chemistry with new Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza—who’s also generating early pre-draft buzz—as he had with Kurtis Rourke, expect both Sarratt and Mendoza to rise up draft boards by season’s end.

I graduated from LSU with a B.S. in Sport Administration and a M.S. from SMU in Sports Management.
