    There\u2019s a strange irony to this moment in\u00a0Bitcoin mining<\/a>: the deeper we dig, the less we mine.<\/p>\n

    At Mining Disrupt 2025 and similar events around the country, the conversation has quietly shifted from\u00a0digital gold<\/a>\u00a0to grid stabilization. \u201cBitcoin mining is a grid balancing technology\u2014maybe the best in history,\u201d said\u00a0Dennis Porter<\/a>\u00a0of the Satoshi Action Fund in a recent panel. That\u2019s not hyperbole. Porter is among a growing number of professionals who recognize that mining\u2019s unique ability to throttle demand in real time makes it one of the most valuable flexible loads available to power operators.<\/p>\n

    There\u2019s a sober wisdom in that observation, a big opportunity, but also a problem.<\/p>\n

    Miners are\u00a0making money<\/a>\u00a0today in everything\u00a0but<\/em>\u00a0mining Bitcoin: carbon credits, stranded energy, tax incentives, debt-fueled BTC accumulation, and curtailment agreements. Many jobs are also being created in the manufacture of the proverbial \u201cpicks and shovels\u201d of the\u00a0Bitcoin era<\/a>. These are clever plays. They serve the grid. They keep operations alive. But they increasingly distance miners from the very network they were designed to secure.<\/p>\n

    And that is the point of my ongoing coverage of the mining industry as a whole, punctuated (again) by\u00a0my coverage at Mining Disrupt 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n
