short course triathlon has to offer as he became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathlon-news\/elite\/olympic-games-triathlon-paris-2024-results-report-men\">Olympic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathlon-news\/elite\/wtcs-grand-final-results-2024-full-finishing-order-times-series-standings\">World Champion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But 2025 has a very different feel for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathletes\/alex-yee\">Alex Yee<\/a><\/strong> as he\u2019s currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathlon-news\/elite\/alex-yee-london-marathon-2025-triathlon-speed-gains\">immersed in training for his marathon debut<\/a> in London on April 27th.<\/p>\n<p>Some things don\u2019t change though, whether it\u2019s triathlon or running, as his quest for self-improvement remains exactly the same and there are plenty of encouraging signs as he tackles the 26.2-mile journey.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-it-s-looking-fast\">\u2018It\u2019s looking fast\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>He\u2019s already taken in the Valencia 10K in January\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathlon-news\/elite\/alex-yee-valencia-10k-results-2024-finishing-order-times\">where he clocked a sharp 28:07<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However plans to do a half marathon race by now have been delayed by illness, but things are getting back on track as he revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DGJM9FYsQdN\/?img_index=11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on Instagram<\/a> recently, saying: \u201cBeing honest, It\u2019s been a challenging start to 2025 with two bouts of illness and many unknowns, but this is the discomfort zone \u2013 and that\u2019s where growth happens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s my only goal right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust returned from a productive trip to Boston with New Balance, finalizing the newest race shoe for id=\"h-taking-on-the-greats\">Taking on the greats<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathletes\/alex-yee\">Yee<\/a> will be part of arguably the greatest men\u2019s London Marathon field ever assembled \u2013 the GOAT Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya heads it and will be up against his great rival on both track and road, Ethiopia\u2019s Kenenisa Bekele.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Mutiso (KEN) is back to defend his London title and also in the line up are Olympic champion Tamirat Tola (ETH), the fifth-fastest man in history, Sabastian Sawe (KEN), and Jacob Kiplimo (UGA), who recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/run247.com\/running-news\/marathon-news\/jacob-kiplimo-eliud-kipchoge-sub-two-hour-marathon-attempt-london\">clocked that incredible new world record<\/a>\u00a0at the Barcelona Half Marathon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathletes\/alex-yee\">Yee<\/a> has set himself a target time of between two hours seven minutes and two hours 10 minutes in London which would make him one of the fastest British men over the iconic distance.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-aussie-star-mckenna-joins-the-marathon-party\">Aussie star McKenna joins the marathon party<\/h2>\n<p>And following in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri247.com\/triathletes\/alex-yee\">Yee<\/a>\u2019s footsteps in taking a temporary break from triathlon to focus on running is Aussie star <strong>Steve McKenna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>McKenna won IRONMAN New Zealand last season and IRONMAN Australia the year before so the marathon isn\u2019t new to him but writing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DGwps_oSDFy\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on Instagram<\/a> he explained: \u201cStarting my season by going back to where it all started for me and endurance \u2013 running. Pacing the 2.20 group at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ballaratmarathon\/\">@ballaratmarathon<\/a> with a flag on my back is first up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the Ironman World Champs in Nice and 70.3 WC\u2019s in Marbella which both involve a fair bit of descending and bike skill\u2026 I would be wasting my time going up against the best in these events after learning how to ride a bike at 23yo (10years ago, but even some of the 23yo pros have more experience than me on a bike having started early). Ironman Pro series success relies on solid WC\u2019s results.
