We all know there\u2019s a vast difference between American culture and the Ghanaian culture<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Our relatives abroad<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0sometimes move back home thinking they can carry on with habits they learned staying abroad but that definitely cannot fly out here.<\/p>\n

With time, here are all the habits you lose when you move to Ghana from abroad.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0You Can\u2019t Say \u201cHi\u201d To Elders<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It might seem normal to say \u201chi\u201d to someone older than you in the States, but it is an abomination down here in Ghana and when you stay here for long, you will be chastised so much you will be forced to comply and before you know it, saying \u201chi\u201d feels disrespectful.<\/p>\n

2. You Can\u2019t Leave Your Dishes Unwashed<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Not washing your dishes after eating will incur some barking by your friends and family in Ghana. Dishes must be washed ASAP after eating.<\/p>\n

3. You Can\u2019t Walk Into A House And Say What\u2019s Up<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s up\u201d might be a normal way of greeting people in the States but down here, you might be ignored when you walk into a house and your first words are \u201cWhat\u2019s up\u201d. You will soon get used to it and before you know it, you\u2019re politely greeting \u201cGood [insert time of the day]\u201d whenever you walk into a house.<\/p>\n

4. You Can\u2019t \u00a0Greet Nor Eat With Your Left Hand<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You pretty much can\u2019t do anything with your left hand so long as it involves other people or even yourself. Being it eating, greeting, addressing people etc. as these are considered disrespectful or arrogant.<\/p>\n

5. Getting To Events Late Is Normal<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you don\u2019t know what the\u00a0popular term, \u201cGhana Man Time\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0is, ask about it. If the event starts at 8, it\u2019s fine to arrive at 10. You might still be early.<\/p>\n

You will soon realize that it\u2019s okay to\u00a0bribe people in Ghana<\/strong>\u00a0to do their jobs, yes, their assigned jobs.<\/p>\n

8. Cutlery Is Out Of The Question<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Eating at the restaurant with your hands is accepted and so with time you will get used to eating with your hands and wouldn\u2019t even think about using a cutlery anymore.<\/p>\n

Driving in Ghana is crazy and if you decided to play it gently, you will be stuck in traffic forever and so the best way is to fight back and before you know it, you\u2019ve lost your sense of order.<\/p>\n
