I\u2019m so grateful you let me know months ago that one of my recipes \u2014 the best vanilla cake I\u2019ve ever had, published by me in 2019 \u2014 was also plagiarised in this book and also appears on the author\u2019s YouTube channel,\u201d McKenney said in an Instagram story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOriginal recipe creators who put in the work to develop and test recipes deserve credit \u2014 especially in a best-selling cookbook.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bellamy has publicly denied the claims she lifted recipes for her book, and shared a 2016 photo of the caramel slice she says predates Maehashi\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have great respect for Nagi and what she has done in recent years for cooks, content creators and cookbooks in Australia \u2014 especially as a fellow female entrepreneur,\u201d Bellamy said on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecipe development in today\u2019s world is enveloped in inspiration from other cooks, cookbook authors, food bloggers and content creators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis willingness to share recipes and build on what has come before is what I love so much about baking and sharing recipes \u2014 the community that surrounds it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brisbane baker said she has offered to remove both recipes flagged by Maehashi from future reprints to prevent further aggravation.<\/p>\n<figure><picture><source data-ratio=\"16:9\" media=\"(min-width: 0px)\"  ><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"recipes\" src=\"https:\/\/images.7news.com.au\/publication\/C-18539644\/cc0ec34649315685336f4b3f587435394e9afec9.jpg?imwidth=650&#038;impolicy=sevennews_v2\" alt=\"recipes RecipeTin Eats founder Nagi Maehashi and Brooke Bellamy, who founded Brooki Bakehouse.\"><\/picture><figcaption><span><span>RecipeTin Eats founder Nagi Maehashi and Brooke Bellamy, who founded Brooki Bakehouse.<\/span><span> Credit: RecipeTin Eats\/Brooki Bakehouse<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a second statement on Wednesday, Bellamy said she does \u201cnot copy other\u2019s people\u2019s recipes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike many bakers, I draw inspiration from the classics, but the creations you see at Brooki Bakehouse reflect my own experience, taste, and passion for baking, born of countless hours of my childhood spent in my home kitchen with Mum,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile baking has leeway for creativity, much of it is a precise science and is necessarily formulaic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany recipes are bound to share common steps and measures: if they don\u2019t, they simply don\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Recipes Legal expert weighs in on baker battle<\/h2>\n<p>Legal experts say recipes are unlikely to be protected by copyright laws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s quite a high hurdle to jump to show that a recipe has enough originality to allege copyright infringement,\u201d Queensland University of Technology intellectual property expert Kylie Pappalardo told 7NEWS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCopyright is an area where these things come up all the time.
