Maguga on Tuesday appeared before the Nkomazi Magistrate\u2019s Court where he was remanded in custody.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspect, Eugine Julius Maguga, 49, charged with money laundering and bribery appeared at the Nkomazi Magistrate\u2019s Court on March 18 2025. The case was postponed to (Thursday) March 20 2025 for formal bail application,\u201d said Ndubane.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Ndubane said the 49-year-old man was arrested on Sunday following an extensive search in his house.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis achievement is as the result of the dedication by members deployed for Operation Vala Umgodi and the man was nabbed on Sunday, March 16 2025 at Tonga near Komatipoort,\u201d said Ndubane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She said police officers received a tip-off about a man who was allegedly in possession of an unlicenced firearm.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey then responded swiftly and followed the information and upon arrival at Tonga View, they found the owner of the house and conducted a search and it was during that time when they discovered the large sum of money hidden under the bed as well as inside the wardrobe,\u201d said Ndubane.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe astute members continued searching in other rooms where they further found a bag full of money. It was during the process when the man tried his luck, to bribe the police officials with R50,000, but his attempts failed dismally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ndubane said the money amounted to R1.2 million in banknotes and coins, and there was also Mozambican currency.<\/p>\n

The money was confiscated from the house and police said it will form part of the investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe suspect is facing several charges including money laundering, bribing of a police officer,\u00a0<\/span>contravention of Prevention of Organised Crime (Act)<\/span>, contravention of Tax Administration Act as well as other related charges,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The arrested man is expected to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ndubane added that police investigations have so far revealed that the arrested man\u2019s company is involved in the business of clearing commercial goods.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, acting provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended police officers deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi \u201cfor the sterling work they are doing in the province\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
