Vitalik Buterin says the apps built on Ethereum need to have a \u201cgood social philosophy.\u201d<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What Does That Mean?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Vitalik Buterin believes<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">application layer<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2014where developers build tools and services on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altcoinbuzz.io\/?s=Ethereum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum<\/a>\u2014significantly impacts people\u2019s lives. Developers need to ask themselves, <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Why are we building this? Who benefits?<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> That\u2019s where social philosophy comes in.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Apps That Get It Right\u2014and Those That Don\u2019t<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vitalik pointed to a few projects he feels reflect a good social philosophy:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railgun.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Railgun<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (a privacy-focused protocol)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/polymarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polymarket<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (a decentralized prediction market)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.farcaster.xyz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farcaster<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (a Web3 social app)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/signal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Signal<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (the popular encrypted messenger)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Buterin, the applications automatically maintain proper operations in the background. They focus on user privacy, decentralization, and meaningful use cases. Their failures, he said, reflect misguided intentions or reckless behavior from the people who built them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Infrastructure vs. Intentions<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Interestingly, <\/span>Vitalik Buterin<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> also compared Ethereum\u2019s infrastructure to something like the programming language C++. Even if someone with questionable beliefs had invented C++, it wouldn\u2019t change the language much\u2014it\u2019s just a tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But Ethereum, he says, <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">isn\u2019t only a tool<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.
