Three men \u2013 Ben Meagher, John Howell and Trevor Schofield \u2013 are listed as directors of both firms on Companies House. \u201cThe purchaser is considered a connected party by way of mutual directors,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Only one offer was received for Colwin Construction and its assets, according to the administrator\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis Business Recovery was \u201cinitially engaged\u201d by Colwin Construction on 18 February.<\/p>\n<p>Colwin Group was incorporated on 14 March, according to Companies House records, and has the same trading address as Colwin Construction.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen out of Colwin Construction\u2019s 19 staff transferred to the new company through TUPE, the administrators report said.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 162 creditors are listed with the total amount owed nearly \u00a33.7m.<\/p>\n<p>The administrators report showed Colwin Construction owing HMRC nearly \u00a3800,000, which includes unpaid VAT and unpaid employees\u2019 PAYE and National Insurance contributions.<\/p>\n<p>The report added that based on current estimates, it is anticipated there will be a distribution to \u201cpreferential creditors\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cThe quantum and timing of any distribution will be confirmed with creditors in the next required progress report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HMRC is a secondary preferential creditor.<\/p>\n<p>Unsecured creditor claims are estimated to be around \u00a31.7m.<\/p>\n<p>However, the administrators report said that \u201cbased on current estimates, there will be insufficient funds to enable a distribution to the company\u2019s unsecured creditors\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Colwin Group\u2019s website lists its specialities as underpinning, superstructure repairs and home improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The administrators have been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/administrations\/directors-new-company-buys-failed-firm-11-04-2025\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n James Wilmore<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three directors of an Essex-based contractor that has gone into administration have launched a new company that has acquired the failed business and its assets.
