{"id":840501,"date":"2025-04-11T12:12:12","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T17:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/11\/wnba-general-manager-deems-potential-lottery-prospect-a-dawg-ahead-of-draft\/"},"modified":"2025-04-11T12:12:12","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T17:12:12","slug":"wnba-general-manager-deems-potential-lottery-prospect-a-dawg-ahead-of-draft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/11\/wnba-general-manager-deems-potential-lottery-prospect-a-dawg-ahead-of-draft\/","title":{"rendered":"WNBA general manager deems potential lottery prospect a \u201cdawg\u201d ahead of draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Basketball <\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"U6cuQb\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/wnba\/2025\/3\/31\/24397305\/aneesah-morrow-lsu-wnba-mock-draft-ncaa-tournament-march-madness\">Aneesah Morrow<\/a> was women&#8217;s college basketball\u2019s top rebounder this past season \u2014 and finished her collegiate career as an all-time rebounder. <\/p>\n<p id=\"y7JmNH\">In her senior year season at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.andthevalleyshook.com\/\">LSU<\/a>, she averaged 18.8 points and 13.7 rebounds per game, shooting 49.4% from the field.<\/p>\n<p id=\"CQNwHE\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6265731\/2025\/04\/09\/wnba-mock-draft-uconn-bueckers\/\"><em>The Athletic<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tankathon.com\/wnba\/mock_draft\">Tankathon<\/a> currently project that Morrow will be selected 7th overall by the Connecticut Sun. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/wnba\/article\/wnba-mock-draft-20-where-things-stand-with-paige-bueckers-kiki-iriafen-and-more-following-ncaa-tournament-120008097.html\"><em>Yahoo Sports<\/em><\/a> has the rebounding machine slotted 5th overall to be taken by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/wnba\/2024\/12\/6\/24315069\/golden-state-valkyries-expansion-draft-results-player-selections-kate-martin-veronica-burton\">Golden State Valkyries<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p id=\"jwYn4P\">Those are higher projections than before the NCAA tournament \u2014 in part because several top prospects, most notably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/2025\/4\/3\/24400559\/olivia-miles-transfer-portal-womens-basketball-notre-dame-unc-tcu\">Olivia Miles<\/a>, have opted to forego the draft, and in part because Morrow had several standout performances in March. But, it\u2019s clear teams think highly of her ahead of the draft. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"QEWpwq\"><strong>Curt Miller calls Aneesah Morrow a \u201cdawg\u201d ahead of WNBA Draft <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p id=\"KKBpXW\">Dallas Wings general manager Curt Miller spoke glowingly about Morrow in a pre-draft media availability on Thursday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p id=\"qD9uyT\">\u201cWhichever franchise is fortunate to end up with her is getting a really talented player,\u201d Miller said. \u201cFirst and foremost, I personally, in my decade in this league, think that rebounding has translated, and players that rebounded in college ended up rebounding in the pros. And so one of the things that you have that just pops off the chart [is] when she leads the nation in rebounding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"cjlkf0\">The Wings have the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swishappeal.com\">WNBA<\/a> draft, so they\u2019re unlikely to select Morrow based on current projections. <\/p>\n<p id=\"TJ3GWU\">Still, Miller is one of the most veteran people in the WNBA, having previously coached both the Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks before taking the general manager role in Dallas.
