As the company continues to expand its global footprint, CNBC-TV18 spoke to Philipp Navratil, Global CEO of Nestl\u00e9 Nespresso to explore the key trends, the company\u2019s strategic direction and the opportunities in fast growing markets like India.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img alt=\"Profile image\" title=\"Profile image\" id loading=\"lazy\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/static\/images\/author.png\"><span>By <a title=\"Delshad Irani\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/author\/delashadirani-11971\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Delshad Irani <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span>April 6, 2025, 5:29:14 PM IST (Published)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Nestl\u00e9 Nespresso is betting big on India\u2019s coffee market, calling it a \u201chuge opportunity\u201d as it opens its first boutique in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\nSpeaking to <em>CNBC-TV18<\/em>, Global CEO Philipp Navratil said India\u2019s young, curious consumer base and rising interest in premium experiences make it a key growth market for the brand.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cIt\u2019s still a tea market, but the opportunity here is household penetration. It\u2019s about making the coffee business pie bigger in India. And the potential is massive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\nGlobally, coffee is undergoing a shift in how it\u2019s consumed and perceived. Coffee is no longer just a morning pick-me-up but something people drink for pleasure. \u201cActually, for the first time, we see that coffee for stimulation purposes\u2026 has been replaced by what we call cups for pleasure,\u201d Navratil said.<\/p>\n<p>\nThis evolution is being driven by a younger, more experimental group of consumers who are embracing cold brews, milk-based and flavoured coffees. Alongside this is the rise of premiumisation, with people wanting to know not just how their coffee tastes but where it comes from, how it\u2019s grown, and how sustainable the process is.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThere\u2019s a big trend in people wanting to become coffee experts. It\u2019s really like wine,\u201d Navratil said, noting that social media and coffee shops have helped fuel this culture. \u201cYou want to have a nice machine at home. It speaks to who you are and what you like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nAs coffee becomes more of a cultural and social experience, Nespresso is looking to deepen its direct-to-consumer strategy, investing in digital engagement and personalisation. \u201cWe want to become better, more engaging when it comes to real personalisation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\nSustainability, Navratil stressed, remains at the core of Nespresso\u2019s business. \u201cWe believe we can only source the best quality coffee if it is grown sustainably.
