\n\t\u201cThe Wizard of Oz<\/a>\u201d is taking the Yellow Brick Road to the Sphere<\/a> in Las Vegas. <\/p>\n \n\tSphere Entertainment Co. has announced two new projects \u2014 \u201cThe Wizard of Oz at Sphere\u201d and \u201cFrom the Edge\u201d \u2014 currently in production from Sphere Studios. Both productions are part of Sphere\u2019s slate of original immersive content called The Sphere Experience. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOur goal for The Sphere Experience is a diverse slate that leverages Sphere\u2019s power as an experiential medium.\u00a0\u2018The Wizard of Oz at Sphere\u2019\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0\u2018From the Edge\u2019 will push that vision forward in different ways,\u201d said Jim Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment. <\/p>\n \n\tThe 1939 original \u201cWizard of Oz,\u201d starring Judy Garland as the iconic character Dorothy, will be presented as a fully immersive experience for Sphere, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google and Magnopus. The Sphere will use \u201ccutting edge technologies to enhance the film\u201d and the production \u201cwill maintain the integrity of the original while pushing the boundaries of Sphere\u2019s experiential medium,\u201d per an official description.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe Wizard of Oz at Sphere\u201d creative team includes producer Jane Rosenthal (\u201cThe Irishman\u201d), visual effects specialist Ben Grossman (\u201cHugo\u201d), editor Jennifer Lame (\u201cOppenheimer\u201d) and creative director Zack Winokur (\u201cLittle Island\u201d). <\/p>\n \n\tMeanwhile, \u201cFrom the Edge\u201d will feature five premier athletes: free diver Alenka Artnik, skier Markus Eder, rock climber Alex Honnold, BASE jumper Katie Hansen Lajeunesse and surfer Kai Lenny. Directed by E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (\u201cFree Solo\u201d), the production will take audiences inside the world of extreme sports.<\/p>\n \n\tThe five athletes are being captured on location by Big Sky, Sphere Entertainment\u2019s proprietary camera system developed to capture images at the scale necessary for the Sphere\u2019s display. Filming is currently underway in locations in Jordan, Dubai, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Austin, Las Vegas and Maui.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cFrom the Edge\u201d is produced by Vsarhelyi and Chin and their Little Monster Films along with Evan Hayes and Callum Greene. Executive producers include Anna Barnes of Little Monster Films and Stept Studios\u2019 Nick Martini. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe Wizard of Oz at Sphere\u201d is set to open on Aug. 28, while \u201cFrom the Edge\u201d will debut in 2026. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t\tPopular on Variety\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
