President Donald Trump has made it clear that he holds Iran<\/a> directly responsible for any future attacks by Yemen\u2019s Houthi<\/a> rebels, who have repeatedly targeted US and other foreign ships in the Red Sea. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\u201cEvery shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nThe president\u2019s statement comes as his administration intensifies its efforts against the Iran-backed Houthis.<\/p>\n

\nUS airstrikes over the weekend killed at least 53 people, reports<\/a>\u00a0the BBC, and further military action appears likely. At the same time, Iran is still weighing its response to a letter from Trump aimed at restarting talks on Tehran\u2019s rapidly advancing nuclear program. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nDescribing the Houthis as \u201csinister mobsters and thugs,\u201d Trump warned that any attack by the group would be met with \u201cgreat force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIran has played \u2018the innocent victim\u2019 of rogue terrorists from which they\u2019ve lost control, but they haven\u2019t lost control,\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cThey\u2019re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated Military equipment, and even, so-called, \u2018Intelligence.\u2019\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nIran\u2019s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards recently sought to distance Tehran from Houthi actions. Over the weekend, the Houthis launched drones and missiles at the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea, though none reached the vessel, which continues operations in the region, says Al Jazeera.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
