In announcing the bill, the Alabama senator said he wanted to help US President Donald Trump\u2019s perceived role as a \u201ccrypto president.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive people a chance to breathe for once [&#8230;] let them do what they do best [which] is invest their money,\u201d said the senator.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Freedom Act, which Tuberville first <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/senator-s-financial-freedom-act-would-ensure-bitcoin-can-be-in-your-401-k\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">introduced in the US Senate<\/a> in May 2022, proposed scaling back regulations with the Department of Labor over the types of investments used in 401(k) retirement plan fiduciaries. In a 2022 interview, the Republican senator <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sen-lummis-still-very-comfortable-with-bitcoin-in-retirement-plans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" text=\"null\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sen-lummis-still-very-comfortable-with-bitcoin-in-retirement-plans\">said she was<\/a> \u201cvery comfortable with making sure that people can include Bitcoin in their retirement funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto legislation in the 119th session of Congress<\/h2>\n<p>The crypto retirement bill came as members of the Republican-controlled Congress considered legislation to establish market structure rules for the industry and stablecoin regulations. <\/p>\n<p>Proponents of the legislation have <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/congress-stablecoin-market-structure-bills-august-blockchain-association\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">suggested that lawmakers<\/a> get the bills to Trump\u2019s desk to sign into law before the August recess.
