However, on March 3, El Salvador purchased 5 BTC in a single day.<\/p>\n<p>El Salvador <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/el-salvador-bitcoin-payment-voluntary-imf-loan-deal\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">struck a deal with the IMF<\/a> in December 2024 for a $1.4 billion loan from the organization. Lawmakers repealed the previous version of the law in a 55-2 vote.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the repeal, the government continued stacking Bitcoin, <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/el-salvador-purchases-2-additional-btc-one-day\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">purchasing two BTC in a single day<\/a> on Feb. 1 and continuing its daily accumulation of the digital currency.<\/p>\n<p>On March 3, the IMF issued a new request <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/imf-el-salvador-no-voluntary-bitcoin-accumulation-public-sector\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">pressuring El Salvador to stop accumulating BTC<\/a> and stipulated that the country could not issue debt or tokenized securities tied to Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>President Nayib Bukele responded to the IMF pressure and said that <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/el-salvador-president-bukele-bitcoin-buying-to-continue-imf-deal\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">El Salvador will continue buying BTC<\/a> \u2014 characterizing the IMF\u2019s continued pressure as \u201cwhining.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"bitcoins IMF, Bitcoin Regulation, El Salvador\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-03\/019577a0-7062-7bc8-ab96-a26fb72cb16f\" title><figcaption>\n<p><em>Source: <\/em><a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nayibbukele\/status\/1897019629702410551\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" text=\"null\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nayibbukele\/status\/1897019629702410551\"><em>Nayib Bukele<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf it didn\u2019t stop when the world ostracized us and most &#8216;bitcoiners&#8217; abandoned us, it won\u2019t stop now, and it won\u2019t stop in the future,&#8221; Bukele emphatically stated.<\/p>\n<p>The government of El Salvador\u2019s unapologetic pro-Bitcoin stance caused several major crypto firms to announce that they are relocating to the Central American country.<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 7, Bitfinex Derivatives announced it was <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitfinex-derivatives-el-salvador-crypto-license-will-relocate\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"null\">relocating from Seychelles to El Salvador<\/a>.
