{"id":837831,"date":"2025-03-30T16:12:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-30T21:12:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/30\/obasa-returns-as-speaker\/"},"modified":"2025-03-30T16:12:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T21:12:48","slug":"obasa-returns-as-speaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/30\/obasa-returns-as-speaker\/","title":{"rendered":"Obasa Returns As Speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_66\">\n<p>News Investigators\/ The Lagos State House of Assembly has reinstated the impeached speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, ending\u00a0 49 days of the speakership crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Obasa returns as the Speaker following the resignation of the former speaker, Mojisola Meranda, during Monday\u2019s plenary.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 former Majority Leader, Noheem Adams, moved a motion nominating Mr. Obasa while Nureni Akinsanya seconded it, with no other member nominated for the speakership.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Obasa was subsequently sworn in as the new speaker by the Head of the Legal Department of the House.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Meranda returned to her role as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker, however, promised to listen to his colleagues, thanking the staff and the media for projecting the House well.<\/p>\n<p>NAN recalls that Obasa was removed on Jan. 13 by\u00a0 32 out of the 40 lawmakers, over financial impropriety, high-handedness and gross misconduct.
