Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealed in an interview on Tuesday that President Donald Trump plans to announce a bitcoin strategic reserve<\/a> later this week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to independent news outlet The Pavlovic Today<\/a>, Lutnick stated that the President \u201cdefinitely thinks there\u2019s a bitcoin strategic reserve\u201d and will unveil plans for it during the White House\u2019s inaugural crypto summit on Friday.<\/p>\n

Lutnick hinted that bitcoin would have a \u201cunique status\u201d compared to other cryptocurrencies under the reserve framework. \u201cBitcoin is one thing, and then the other currencies, the other crypto tokens, I think, will be treated differently\u2014positively, but differently,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

The Commerce Secretary\u2019s comments align with President Trump\u2019s <\/a>recent social media posts supporting the creation of a crypto reserve anchored by bitcoin. The President stated the reserve would \u201celevate this critical industry after years of corrupt attacks by the Biden Administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lutnick\u2019s preview of the announcement propelled bitcoin over $90,000 this week from under $85,000 on Monday. The overall crypto market surged back above $3 trillion ahead of the summit.<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s gathering will convene top bitcoin and crypto executives, investors, and regulators to map out a framework for crypto oversight and innovation in the U.S. Attendees include Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell, MicroStrategy Chairman Michael Saylor, and others.<\/p>\n

The summit follows Trump\u2019s executive order directing officials to prioritize the \u201cresponsible growth of digital assets.\u201d The President aims to reposition the U.S. as the \u201ccrypto capital of the world\u201d after strict policies under Biden stifled innovation.<\/p>\n
