These last few days of the trade deadline, when several league-turning trades have gone through in the past, are critical for certain teams. For the Golden State Warriors, there has been a constant search to find the ideal complement that can assist Stephen Curry in his own version of the ‘Last Dance’. But where do things stand? How desperate is the Bay to flip the script around on their thus far middling campaign?

If you ask Steve Kerr, the Warriors HC doesn’t doubt the current structure of the roster. He feels the current talent on the team could be sufficient for a postseason run. Yet, there are also reservations. Sitting dead set on .500 after a sizzling start, Kerr provided his unfiltered opinion on the Warriors’ strategy going into the final days of the trade season.

“We’ve also, shown that, you know, we don’t have enough to, you know, separate ourselves from, you know, the rest of the West. And, so I think the point is, you know, we’re not in a position where we can just say, no. We’re good, let’s stand pat. That’s the reality of where we are,” said the renowned head coach.

Article continues below this ad

Steve Kerr on the trade deadline: “We’re not in a position where we can say, ‘Nah, we’re good. However, there is a mutual understanding between Stephen Curry, Kerr, and the franchise. They aren’t going to pull the plug for just anyone. “Mike’s doing his due diligence, doing his job. If there’s something that makes sense, he’s gonna do it. And if not, then I’m very comfortable going forward with this team because I know what we’re capable of, and I believe in the guys,” Kerr stated.

A shred of that belief came during the last game. On the back end of a back-to-back, the Bay upset OKC, the best team in the West. Now, every game before the trade deadline could be a vital factor in the design of the roster.

Steve Kerr wishes to carry “momentum” from OKC’s win

The Golden State Warriors have spent the last few weeks trying to gain some rhythm. Their hot start broke down, leaving them sitting as the 11th seed. However, a win against the Thunder without Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga did spark some hope. For the first time since November 16, the Bay has a chance to go on a three-game winning streak.

Article continues below this ad

And it’s a brawling match. The iconic rivalry of Kevin Durant vs Stephen Curry reignites tonight. Moreover, the Suns are in a similar position, fighting for wins and unsure about the stability of their roster. But the Warriors hold an edge going into tonight.

“We’ll, hopefully, try to, you know, capture a little momentum here. We have an opportunity for that. I think tonight’s a big game in that regard, coming off the other night, but we gotta,” the Warriors head coach detailed the importance of tonight’s matchup against the KD-led Suns.

The two teams have split their two games this season. However, it’s crucial to mention how vital Draymond Green was for the Bay in both instances. Tonight, they will be without his services for a seventh straight game. Also, Kuminga, who scored 34 in their win against Phoenix, will be on the sidelines.

Article continues below this ad

Hence, another herculean task awaits Steve Kerr and Co. But after beating the best team in the West their confidence is high. Maybe that is enough to power them through the ninth-seed Suns that sit just one win ahead of them.

Joan Drews
Read More

Fanbases from around the league are awaiting a move they can celebrate.
