The mighty morphin Power Rangers<\/a> are go-going to Disney+. Hasbro Entertainment is reportedly developing and will produce a new live-action Power Rangers<\/em> series for the Disney streaming service and 20th Century TV, according to TheWrap<\/em><\/a>, which describes the Power Rangers<\/em> reboot as a \u201creinvention\u201d of the 30-year-old franchise. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, showrunners of Disney+\u2019s Percy Jackson and the Olympians<\/em> series, will write and serve as producers and showrunners of the first new Power Rangers<\/em> show since Netflix\u2019s Power Rangers Cosmic Fury<\/em> in 2023. <\/p>\n Hasbro said the company was \u201cinvesting in unlocking Power Rangers<\/em>\u2018 full potential\u201d when it acquired Saban\u2019s Power Rangers<\/em> and other assets in a $522 million deal in 2018. <\/p>\n A new Power Rangers<\/em> series was first announced<\/a> in 2022 with Jenny Klein (Daisy & the Six<\/em>) set to serve as showrunner for Power Rangers Dino Fury<\/em> and Cosmic Fury<\/em> network Netflix, which also released Hasbro and eOne\u2019s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always<\/em> movie commemorating the series\u2019 30th anniversary<\/a> in 2023. <\/p>\n But in 2024, it was reported that the series Klein was developing with Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World, I Am Not Okay With This<\/em>) \u2014 who was tapped to oversee the Power Rangers<\/em> Cinematic Universe<\/a> in 2021 \u2014 was no longer moving forward at Netflix<\/a>. Reports at the time said Hasbro was pursuing \u201ca new creative direction\u201d with a new partner for the series, which has since landed at Disney-owned 20th Television. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Entwistle\u2019s Netflix-based PRCU<\/a> was to span multiple series and movies for the streamer, including the 1990s-set feature film reboot<\/a>\u00a0that Entwistle was to direct for Paramount Pictures.\u00a0It would have been the first Power Rangers<\/em> film to hit theaters since Lionsgate tried rebooting the franchise for the big screen in 2017. <\/p>\n Created by\u00a0Haim Saban\u00a0and launched in 1993,\u00a0Mighty Morphin Power Rangers<\/em>, about the adventures of a group of ordinary teens who morph into superheroes and save the world from evil,\u00a0quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. Power Rangers<\/em> is one of the longest running kids\u2019 live-action series in television history with\u00a0nearly 1,000\u00a0episodes produced to date.<\/p>\n The earliest iterations of Power Rangers<\/em> \u2014 including the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers<\/em> (1993), Power Rangers Zeo<\/em> (1996), and Power Rangers Turbo<\/em> (1997) \u2014 aired on Saban\u2019s Fox Kids Network. The Walt Disney Company acquired Saban Entertainment and Power Rangers<\/em> in a $5.3 billion deal for Fox Family Worldwide 2001, and Disney\u2019s kids\u2019 networks aired Disney-produced Power Rangers<\/em> series like Power Rangers Wild Force<\/em> (2002), Power Rangers S.P.D.<\/em> (2005), and Power Rangers RPM<\/em> (2009) before Saban re-acquired the Power Rangers<\/em> franchise rights in a $43 million purchase in 2010. <\/p>\n<\/div>\nEntertainment
