\n\tAs someone familiar with major shipwrecks, James Cameron<\/a> has gotten out while the getting is good.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 3x Oscar winner recently revealed that his New Zealand<\/a> citizenship is \u201cimminent\u201d after President Donald Trump<\/a> was elected for a second term in November, noting the move is \u201csomething I\u2019ve worked toward, something I\u2019ve had to sacrifice for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI see a turn away from everything decent,\u201d he told NZ\u2019s Stuff<\/a> of the U.S. under Trump\u2019s administration. \u201cAmerica doesn\u2019t stand for anything if it doesn\u2019t stand for what it has historically stood for. It becomes a hollow idea, and I think they\u2019re hollowing it out as fast as they can for their own benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCameron added, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I feel any safer here, but I certainly feel like I don\u2019t have to read about it on the front page every single day. And it\u2019s just sickening. There\u2019s something nice about the New Zealand outlets \u2014 at least they\u2019ll put it on page three. I just don\u2019t want to see that guy\u2019s face anymore on the front page of the paper. It\u2019s inescapable there, it\u2019s like watching a car crash over and over and over.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/em> director, who owns a farm in Wairarapa and plans to film his future projects in Wellington, believes people should \u201cearn your right to be in a place.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf you\u2019re going to uproot your family and move somewhere, you have to invest, you have to be part of it, you have to earn standing,\u201d said Cameron.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2023, Cameron expressed his intentions to recruit \u201csome young blood<\/a>\u201d into NZ\u2019s film industry. \u201cI love working here. I love the people that I get to work with here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve got to have the new people,\u201d added Cameron. \u201cI\u2019m not talking just about writers and directors. I\u2019m talking about the tradies, the craftspeople, the dolly grip, the crane grip. Those are all art forms in of themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
