{"id":828340,"date":"2025-02-20T03:12:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T09:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/20\/live-action-street-fighter-movie-finds-a-new-director\/"},"modified":"2025-02-20T03:12:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T09:12:53","slug":"live-action-street-fighter-movie-finds-a-new-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/20\/live-action-street-fighter-movie-finds-a-new-director\/","title":{"rendered":"Live-Action Street Fighter Movie Finds a New Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Entertainment <\/p>\n<div data-cy=\"page-header\">\n<h2 data-cy=\"article-sub-headline\">It could hint at a different tone for the movie.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<section data-cy=\"article-content\">\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">A new Street Fighter movie has selected its challenger, I mean, director.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/street-fighter-finds-its-director-1236140934\/\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> says Kitao Sakurai, writer, director, and executive producer on the absurd comedy show The Eric Andre Show, will direct a new film adaptation of Street Fighter for Legendary Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">Capcom is said to be \u201cdeeply involved\u201d with the adaptation with the movie already given a March 20, 2026 release date.<\/p>\n<p><output data-cy=\"article-video\"><\/output><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">This will be the latest attempt at bringing Street Fighter to the big screen, though who can ever forget the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and the late Raul Julia as M. Bison. A masterpiece, even if critics at the time didn\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">No word yet on casting, but you can probably expect to see some of your favorite Street Fighter characters appear in this one. <\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">A previous version of this film initially had <a data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/street-fighter-new-movie-appears-to-have-its-directors\">Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou attached<\/a> to helm the film, but they <a data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/live-action-street-fighter-movie-looking-for-new-director-as-talk-to-me-filmmakers-exit-report\">departed the project in the summer of last year<\/a>. The choice of Eric Andre Show alum Sakurai could mean that Legendary is moving in a new, more absurdist direction for the film. As a fan of the more cartoony elements of Street Fighter, I\u2019m actually excited if this is the case.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\">In the meantime, you can play the most recent Street Fighter game, Street Fighter 6 which recently released its <a data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/street-fighter-6-season-2-roster-revealed-with-four-new-characters\">newest fighter, Mai Shiranui<\/a>.
