{"id":828332,"date":"2025-02-20T01:13:06","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T07:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/20\/darius-slay-does-not-rule-out-return-to-detroit-lions\/"},"modified":"2025-02-20T01:13:06","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T07:13:06","slug":"darius-slay-does-not-rule-out-return-to-detroit-lions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/20\/darius-slay-does-not-rule-out-return-to-detroit-lions\/","title":{"rendered":"Darius Slay does not rule out return to Detroit Lions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Football <\/p>\n<div>\n<figure data-mm-id=\"_2j4bcsirh\"><\/figure>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_izkxirigl\">Philadelphia Eagles veteran cornerback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/team\/detroit-lions\" target=\"_blank\">Darius Slay<\/a> wants to continue to play in the National Football League in 2025. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_fekzuh1hd\">The talented 34-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/news\/contract-status-detroit-lions-cornerbacks-2025\" target=\"_blank\">defensive back<\/a> is entering the final season of a three-year, $42 million contract signed in 2023. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_9khzwgkfa\">In 2025, Slay is set to earn a base salary of $1,255,000 and a signing bonus of $14,595,000, if the Eagles decide to keep him on the roster. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_15q5mak3f\">Appearing on the St. Brown Bros. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/podcasts\" target=\"_blank\">podcast<\/a>, the Eagles defender expressed an understanding of the business side of the game, which could spell the end of his tenure in Philadelphia. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_efevh2pwx\">The City of Detroit is still considered a second home for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/news\/contract-status-detroit-lions-cornerbacks-2025\" target=\"_blank\">Slay<\/a>, and was a place where several young players who are now in the league attended camps and workouts. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_80dsv9uup\">\u201cOh I love <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/news\/contract-status-detroit-lions-cornerbacks-2025\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit<\/a>, that\u2019s my second home. I do a lot for the City still, to this day. A lot of guys that\u2019s from Detroit that\u2019s in the league (were) all hanging with me when they were high school kids,&#8221; Slay said. &#8220;That\u2019s what\u2019s the crazy part. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_z7zsttvms\">&#8220;Avonte Maddox, he trained with me when he was in high school. Sauce Gardner, your boy that you don\u2019t like &#8212; Jourdan Lewis. Donovan Peoples-Jones, he was with me,&#8221; Slay continued. &#8220;A lot of the guys that I was in Detroit with while they were coming up, I used to have little (workouts), \u2018Hey, meet me at this field.\u2019 Lot of guys showed up, and a lot of those guys moved up, so I\u2019ve got a lot of love. I went to all the games, I went to all the high school basketball games.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure data-mm-id=\"_qgv3xe4xj\">\n<blockquote>\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>&#8220;For sure the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eagles CB Darius Slay makes it clear he still wants to play at least one more year and, if it isn&#8217;t with the Eagles, he isn&#8217;t ruling out a return to Detroit. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/k3GtTtqCOH\">pic.twitter.com\/k3GtTtqCOH<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 St. Brown Podcast (@StBrownPodcast) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StBrownPodcast\/status\/1892212544200392811?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_5n3557hif\">While Slay would like to return to the organization that has turned into a regular Super Bowl contender, returning to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/news\/contract-status-detroit-lions-cornerbacks-2025\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit <\/a>would still be appealing. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_gtdpohrkt\">After finishing his collegiate career at Mississippi State, the Lions drafted Slay in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_nze18dsa8\">Following the conclusion of the 2019 NFL season,  Slay was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason in exchange for a third-round and fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft.<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_0gc9nqiaa\">If he parts ways with the team he was traded to in 2020, he would very much welcome playing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/lions\/news\/contract-status-detroit-lions-cornerbacks-2025\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit<\/a> again. <\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_7t8uffa72\">\u201cIf it is, it is. If it ain\u2019t, it ain\u2019t,&#8221; said Slay. &#8220;But for sure the two spots I would always love to be at are Philly and Detroit.
