I started thinking of a dessert I could make with strawberry milk and came up with these <strong>heart shaped buns just in time for Valentine&#8217;s Day<\/strong>. I tried more than 15 times to use fresh strawberry milk, but the pectin in the strawberries ruined the texture of the custard and the color would turn an ugly greyish pink after cooking. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>I ended up using <strong>strawberry milk made from Hershey&#8217;s strawberry syrup<\/strong>, but Nesquik would probably work too. I&#8217;m not sure if store bought strawberry milk would work. Maybe with the right preservatives, but unfortunately you definitely shouldn&#8217;t use fresh strawberries. I didn&#8217;t use any additional food coloring and ended up with a pale pink bun with a coral colored custard. You can add food dye to the milk if you want a pinker color, or add extra strawberry syrup\/Nesquik.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/recipes\/comments\/ldaxki\/comment\/gm4qzn6\/\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Custard<\/strong><br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 180ml strawberry milk<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 2 large egg yolks<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 1tb sugar<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 2tb cornstarch<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 1tb cold butter, cubed<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dough<\/strong><br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 60ml warm strawberry milk<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 1\/2tsp yeast<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 1tb sugar<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 1tsp vegetable oil<br \/>\u2764\ufe0f 100g all-purpose flour<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1 &#8211; Make the Custard<\/strong><br \/>1\ufe0f\u20e3 Whisk <strong>2 egg yolks, 1 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp cornstarch<\/strong> in a bowl.<br \/>2\ufe0f\u20e3 Heat <strong>180ml strawberry milk<\/strong> until steaming. Gradually whisk into yolks.<br \/>3\ufe0f\u20e3 Pour back into the saucepan, cook on medium, whisking until thick.<br \/>4\ufe0f\u20e3 Transfer to a bowl, cover, and cool. Once cooled, divide into <strong>4 portions<\/strong>, roll into balls, and chill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Step 2 &#8211; Make the Dough<\/strong><br \/>5\ufe0f\u20e3 Mix <strong>60ml warm strawberry milk, \u00bd tsp yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp vegetable oil, 90g flour<\/strong>. Knead for <strong>10 min<\/strong> until smooth, adding 10g extra flour if needed.<br \/>6\ufe0f\u20e3 Form into a ball, cover, and let rise <strong>2 hours<\/strong> until doubled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3 &#8211; Prepare Heart Molds<\/strong><br \/>7\ufe0f\u20e3 Shape heart molds from <strong>aluminum foil<\/strong> or use cookie cutters. Oil the interiors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4 &#8211; Assemble the Buns<\/strong><br \/>8\ufe0f\u20e3 Divide dough into <strong>4 pieces<\/strong>, roll each into a <strong>\u00bc&#8221; thick circle<\/strong> (edges <strong>\u215b&#8221; thick<\/strong>).<br \/>9\ufe0f\u20e3 Place <strong>custard ball<\/strong> in the center, fold dough over it, sealing tightly.<br \/>????
