\n\tKarla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n<\/a> claims the viral tweet in which she appeared to call her \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d co-star Selena Gomez<\/a> a \u201crich rat\u201d is completely fabricated.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOf course that\u2019s not mine,\u201d Gasc\u00f3n said during a Saturday night interview<\/a> with CNN en Espa\u00f1ol. \u201cI have never said anything about my partner. I would never refer to her that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVariet<\/em>y has learned that the CNN interview was set up by Gasc\u00f3n and not through Netflix, the distributor of \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tGasc\u00f3n came under fire<\/a> last week after a series of controversial tweets on topics such as George Floyd, diversity at the Oscars and Muslims were rediscovered. Among the posts was one in which Gasc\u00f3n apparently said of Gomez: \u201cShe\u2019s a rich rat who plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend (Justin Bieber) and his wife.\u201d The quote drew attention from media outlets like People,<\/a> but the Academy Award nominee now says that particular tweet wasn\u2019t real. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe day prior, Gasc\u00f3n took to Instagram<\/a> to share a lengthy response regarding the social media controversy, making similar claims about how her words were manipulated or taken out of context. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey have already won, they have achieved their objective, to stain my existence with lies or things taken out of context,\u201d she wrote on Saturday morning. \u201cAnyone who knows me knows that I am not a racist (you will be surprised when you find out that one of the most important people in my current life and that I love the most is Muslim) nor any of the things for which I have been judged and condemned without trial and without option to explain true intention; I have always fought for a more just society and for a world of freedom, peace and love. I will never support wars, religious extremism or the oppression of races and peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
