Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi<\/a>‘s spokesperson announced on Saturday that the California Democrat had a “successful hip replacement” after she was hospitalized due to an injury on Friday during a trip to Luxembourg.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Pelosi’s spokesperson Ian Krager had announced that Pelosi, 84, was “receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals” after an unspecified injury. CNN<\/a> later reported that Pelosi fell on stairs during her trip to Europe.<\/p>\n

“Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend,” Krager said in an official statement Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

He added: “Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military<\/a> staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.”<\/p>\n

On Friday, Krager had said: “While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.”<\/p>\n

Pelosi has continued to be a prominent figure within the Democratic Party<\/a>, even though she stepped down from her role as speaker in 2023. Pelosi also played a large role in pushing for President Joe Biden<\/a> to withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election. At the same time, she has constantly been seen speaking out against President-elect Donald Trump<\/a> and what his administration may do in the next four years.<\/p>\n

This is the second time this week that an older prominent member of Congress<\/a> was injured on the job. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell<\/a>, a Kentucky Republican<\/a>, fell and sprained his wrist on Tuesday<\/a> after a Senate<\/a> Republican lunch on Capitol Hill, his office told Newsweek.<\/em><\/p>\n

Medical staff were reportedly seen entering McConnell’s office, but Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming<\/a> said McConnell had only sustained “a small scratch.”<\/p>\n

McConnell<\/a>, 82, sustained a cut to his face as well as a sprained wrist. His spokesperson, however, said he is allowed to continue to work.<\/p>\n

“Leader McConnell tripped following lunch,” a spokesperson for the Kentucky senator told Newsweek <\/em>at the time. “He sustained a minor cut to the face and sprained his wrist. He has been cleared to resume his schedule.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
