The Ohio State players seated behind Day, including Howard and linebacker Cody Simon, are seen laughing about what happened.<\/p>\n Monday night was the crowning achievement of Day’s tenure with the Buckeyes. They dominated most of the game, building a 31-7 lead midway through the third quarter.<\/p>\n Notre Dame did claw back with 16 unanswered points to make it a 31-23 score with 4:15 left to play. Day, whose job status was being questioned<\/a> after losing to Michigan in the regular-season finale, got the team back on track in the playoff by defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame by an average of 17.5 points.<\/p>\n Day has amassed a 70-10 record (46-5 in Big Ten play) during his tenure as Ohio State head coach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
