given free air fryers and slow cookers in response to the government&#8217;s restriction of the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/winter-fuel-payment\">Winter Fuel Payment<\/a>, a council has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>North Lincolnshire, a Conservative-run local authority, said the energy-efficient appliances would be handed out in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/rachel-reeves\">Chancellor Rachel Reeves<\/a> announced that winter fuel payments would be taken away from around 10 million pensioners from winter 2024\/2025, saying tough decisions had to be made to prevent economic ruin.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, all pensioners were given payments of \u00a3200, with those over \u00a380 every winter towards their energy bills, which have surged in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>But soon after entering Number 11 Downing Street, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/rachel-reeves\">Reeves<\/a> announced the move to a means-tested system that sees payments given only to those receiving Pension \u00a3200 to around 3,000 pensioners on council tax relief who who aren&#8217;t eligible for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/winter-fuel-payment\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\">Winter Fuel Payment<\/a>, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2024\/12\/03\/pensioners-given-air-fryers-help-loss-winter-fuel-payment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Telegraph<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Waltham, the council leader, said: \u201cWe know many pensioners are struggling and rely on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/winter-fuel-payment\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\">winter fuel payment<\/a> at the time of year when energy bills soar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u00a3200 will go some way to help but we want to do more, to help older people eat healthy and at the same time reduce their energy bills by using things like air fryers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Healthy cooking courses will also be made available in addition to the free
