\n\tDesperate Housewive<\/em>s showrunner Marc Cherry<\/a> knows that Real Housewives<\/a><\/em> may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn\u2019t upset about the Bravo franchise\u2019s success.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe writer-producer revealed to People<\/em><\/a> <\/em>that he understands why the Real Housewives <\/em>production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives<\/a><\/em>, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey didn\u2019t crib my name, to be fair to them,\u201d Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. \u201cThey just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That\u2019s the capitalistic system.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives <\/em>franchise \u201ccontinues to be out there,\u201d producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTommy got confused and said, \u2018Oh, so do you produce all the various cities?\u2019 And I looked at him \u2014 I had no idea what he was talking about,\u201d Cherry said. \u201cAnd then I realized, \u2018Oh, you think I created the real-life Housewives<\/em> franchise?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSet on the idyllic street of Wisteria Lane, Desperate Housewives<\/em> followed the sometimes scandalous lives of four neighbors played by Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria. The ABC series won multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards during its eight-season run.<\/p>\n

\n\tCherry explained that he is satisfied with Desperate Housewives<\/em>\u2019 ending \u2014 he felt \u201cthe time had come to pull the plug\u201d in 2012 \u2014 but he does have a little bit of jealousy surrounding the Real Housewives<\/em>\u2019 longevity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI envy the fact that they\u2019ve kept that franchise going,\u201d Cherry said. \u201cI certainly envy the good folks who produce that show because it\u2019s a train that keeps on chugging. So good for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCherry added that \u201cdistance of time\u201d has helped him reflect on some of his creative choices. The producer developed the pilot episode of Desperate Housewives<\/em> over the course of 16 months and had eight working days to finish each episode thereafter. Cherry is open to rebooting the series<\/a>, if he had \u201ca really good artistic reason to do it.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe trick for me artistically is \u2014 is there still stuff that needs to be said?\u201d he shared. \u201cYou know, they always want to move on to the new and the fresh. But if you do a reboot, you have to have a really good artistic reason to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I ever dipped my toe in those waters again, I would want to make sure I had a really good reason,\u201d Cherry concluded.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
