Robert Smith<\/strong> has named two songs likely to appear on The Cure\u2019s <\/strong>next album.<\/p>\n The band made their triumphant return in 2024 with \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019,<\/a><\/span><\/strong> a record unanimously greeted by fans. A powerful, probing song cycle, The Cure then played a mighty one-off show at London\u2019s Troxy venue, caught for posterity on a live album.<\/p>\n It seems that the band aren\u2019t quite done with this chapter, however. Frontman Robert Smith has teased the possibility of a second LP, appearing as a guest on\u00a0X-Posure with John Kennedy on Radio X<\/a> to discuss it a little further.<\/p>\n \u201cIt has a couple of songs that we were playing live which didn\u2019t make it onto \u2018Songs Of A Lost World\u2019 and it has some completely new stuff that no one\u2019s ever heard,\u201d he explained. \u201cThere\u2019s three songs on it, which are slower than pretty much anything on this album. So I don\u2019t know, it may well end up being heavier than this one.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014<\/p>\n \u2014<\/p>\n \u201cLyrically, it\u2019s a very long way from being an upbeat album,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt has one song of grief on it which didn\u2019t make it onto this album, which is a very, very old song which we\u2019ve been playing for a long, long time called \u2018It Can Never Be the Same\u2019. And I think that this next album will have that song on because I think it\u2019s about time. It used to be called \u2018Christmas Without You\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I first wrote it, it was about my mum dying, but it\u2019s mutated over the years and that\u2019s actually turned into a really powerful live song.
