\n\tPerry started out recording Tiny Tim\u2019s first album \u201cGod Bless Tiny Tim,\u201d which included the novelty hit \u201cTip-Toe Thru the Tulips With Me,\u201d as well as Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band\u2019s \u201cSafe as Milk.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\tHe also worked with Barbra Streisand, recording her 1971 album \u201cStoney End,\u201d and produced Harry Nilsson\u2019s \u201cNilsson Schmilsson\u201d and Ringo Starr\u2019s solo albums \u201cRingo\u201d and \u201cGoodnight Vienna.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tPerry recorded 100 takes of \u201cYou\u2019re So Vain,\u201d Simon told the magazine Uncut, and hired three different drummers before he was satisfied with the sound. <\/p>\n
\n\tBorn in Brooklyn, he sang with a group called the Legends as a teen and graduated the University of Michigan. Working at Warner Bros. Records from 1967 to 1970, he oversaw albums like a comeback record for Fats Domino and Ella Fitzergald\u2019s \u201cElla.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tPerry went on to work with Art Garfunkel, Andy Williams, Diana Ross, Leo Sayer and the Pointer Sisters, whom he signed to his own label, Planet Records. He was nominated for seven Grammys, including one as director of the Pointer Sisters\u2019 \u201cI\u2019m So Excited\u201d video. Perry was honored by the Grammys with a Trustees Award for lifetime achievement in 2015.<\/p>\n
\n\tMore recently, he worked with Rod Stewart on his \u201cGreat American Songbook\u201d albums. <\/p>\n
\n\tPerry\u2019s memoir \u201cCloud Nine: Memoirs of a Record Producer\u201d told of his high-flying life including his famously star-studded parties. <\/p>\n
\n\tHe was married to Linda Goldner and Rebecca Broussard and more recently dated Jane Fonda. He is survived by three brothers. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
