arrangements for public servants, acknowledging that the government is \u201cnowhere close\u201d to offering its employees a customizable work model.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Yasir Naqvi said he thinks \u201chybrid work is here to stay\u201d and the government is working to find the \u201cright balance\u201d between working from home and the Instead, he said the decision was taken \u201cfrom the perspective of trying to figure out what the right balance looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not suggesting that\u2019s the decision they should stick with or that is the right decision because I think we\u2019re still trying to explore what is the right balance,\u201d Naqvi said. \u201cIt\u2019s early to make those ultimate decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also wouldn\u2019t give a clear answer on whether increasing required office time to four or five times a week would be a detriment to the public service but emphasized the need for flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the long run, I think the optimum place would be that we get to a place where it\u2019s as customizable as possible based on individual needs and their job requirements,\u201d Naqvi said, adding that developing that model will take time and organization. \u201cI fully admit that we are nowhere close to that model right now and I cannot tell you how long (it) will take us to get there but I think that\u2019s the direction eventually we will go, which will result in (the) most optimized productive workplaces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Naqvi said there are \u201cmultiple steps\u201d that have to occur for the system to be \u201coptimum,\u201d adding that the government will continue to work on reprofiling office space to maximize its use.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>The issue of remote work could be a headache for local politicians in the next election, which must happen by Oct. 20 2025, as Ottawa is home to around 155,000 federal government employees, spread out over its ridings.<\/p>\n<p>According to 2021 census data provided by Statistics Canada, Naqvi\u2019s riding, Ottawa Centre (17,960), has the most public servants of any Ottawa-area riding, followed by Orl\u00e9ans (17,475) and Pontiac (14,120).<\/p>\n<p data-async>In May, shortly after the government announced its latest remote work rules for public servants, Naqvi said there was \u201cno consensus on the issue\u201d among his constituents, <a data-evt-val=\"{\"control_fields\": {\"mparticle\": {\"keys\": {\"click_source_type\": \"click_source_type\", \"anchor_text\": \"anchor_text\", \"target_url\": \"target_url\", \"layout_section\": \"layout_section\"}, \"mp_event_type\": \"Navigation\", \"extra_keys\": [\"click_vertical_position_percentage\", \"click_vertical_position_pixels\"]}}, \"click_source_type\": \"in-page link\", \"anchor_text\": \"according to the Hill Times.u00a0\", \"target_url\": target=\"_blank\">according to the Hill Times.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Naqvi told the Ottawa Citizen his opinion for years has been that hybrid work is \u201chere to stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who thinks that we can go back to 2019, I think is unreasonable or anybody who thinks that we will just have no office and we\u2019ll all work from home, I think is unreasonable as well,\u201d Naqvi said. \u201cWe gotta figure out what that balance middle ground looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Naqvi acknowledged that employees\u2019 ability to work from home also depends on their job requirements, which he said is \u201cnot your preference as an employee, that\u2019s just the condition of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to (the) federal public service, the ultimate criteria has to be the best
