In promotion for the biopic about his life <\/span>Better Man<\/span><\/i>, Robbie Williams has opened up about speculation on his sexuality, saying that he\u2019s done \u201ceverything but suck a cock\u201d and that nobody wishes they were gay as much as him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Better Man <\/span><\/i>tracks the life story of Williams as he dances along the edge of fame and misfortune, but with a major catch \u2013 his likeness is replaced by that of a chimpanzee in the movie. In a feature interview with <\/span>The Guardian<\/span><\/i><\/a>, Williams was asked about tabloid rumours in 2004 that he had a secret gay lover and had sex with women to cover the truth, which is touched upon in the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

Williams eventually sued the paper for libel, securing substantial damages and profuse apologies from the tabloid for their reporting. In reflecting on the experience, he said: \u201cI was annoyed. I was more sad. Not about gay accusations because look, I\u2019ve done everything but suck a cock. Honestly, you\u2019ve never met somebody that wants to be gay as much as me.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bringing up the topic later in the interview, Williams added: \u201cYou want to be an ally while at the same time protecting your own authenticity and your own life. Besides, if I want to suck a cock, I\u2019ll suck a cock. Who\u2019s going to fucking stop me? My wife? The beard!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It echoes sentiments that Williams shared in 2016 that he once <\/span>thought he was \u201csomewhat gay\u201d<\/span><\/a> before realising he \u201cjust can\u2019t do the cock,\u201d despite saying that he often has big crushes on males.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Robbie Williams found \u201ctotal acceptance\u201d in gay clubs<\/h3>\n

Elsewhere in his interview with <\/span>The Guardian<\/span><\/i>, Robbie Williams reflected on his time in the boyband Take That and how appreciative he was of gay clubs during that period. \u201cWhen you went out of an evening it was highly likely that violence was in your near future,\u201d Williams said of England\u2019s nightlife when he grew up. \u201cWhen I went into the gay world there was none of that.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere was total acceptance and humour and gay abandon. And safety. That\u2019s what I take with me to this day; it was an incredibly safe place for me to grow up.\u201d<\/span>
