HIS ailing health has robbed him of his eyesight and led to a string of big operations, but Sir Elton John is still standing.<\/p>\n

The 77-year-old<\/a> reckons there is \u201cnot much left\u201d of him following joint replacement surgeries and the removal of his tonsils, appendix and prostate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yet he shows no signs of \u00adslowing down, and pals are now worried he is pushing his frail body too hard.<\/p>\n

Elton had to be helped off stage in London on Sunday by his husband David Furnish<\/a> because he couldn\u2019t see<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He had been appearing at a charity gala for the Devil Wears Prada musical.<\/p>\n

The legendary singer \u2014 who has also been diagnosed with Type 2 \u00addiabetes<\/a> and has had one hip and two knees replaced \u2014 was supposed to take it easy after his stamina- defying, 330-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour<\/a>, which ended in 2023.<\/p>\n

The idea was that the musician, who raked in nearly a billion dollars from the sell-out concerts, was going to spend more time with his two young sons<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But having tried \u201crecuperating\u201d at home over the summer due to health issues, Elton has been in a whirlwind of projects throughout the autumn.<\/p>\n

They include working on a new album<\/a>, launching two musicals, promoting a documentary and photography exhibition at London\u2019s V&A museum and fundraising for charity.<\/p>\n

He recently expressed fears he will not live long enough to see his boys Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11<\/a>, marry.<\/p>\n

Insiders reckon he needs to ease up if he is going to survive to witness those happy events.<\/p>\n

A source told The Sun: \u201cElton\u2019s friends are seriously concerned about how much he has taken on and believe it is having a major impact on his health.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite a few people who he is close to have now encouraged him to slow down because he has been busier than ever this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs well as recording a new album, he has launched two theatre shows and a huge V&A exhibition, as well as continuing with his weekly Apple Music radio show.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe isn\u2019t getting any younger and his health has been deteriorating in the past few years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole point of his farewell tour was that he would be home more once it finished, but he is still working to an intense schedule.<\/p>\n

“Something has to give.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 1979, the all-action performer had to be carried off stage in Los Angeles suffering from exhaustion, having slumped at his piano while singing Better Off Dead.<\/p>\n

‘SHOW MUST GO ON’<\/h2>\n

An ambulance was called, but he returned to the stage ten minutes later to finish the concert.<\/p>\n

And Elton\u2019s \u201cshow must go on\u201d attitude does not appear to have changed.<\/p>\n

The multi-millionaire has made sure he completed numerous commitments over recent months.<\/p>\n

Fans began to worry when the Rocket Man singer made a statement on Instagram<\/a> in September saying he had been suffering from a \u201csevere\u201d eye infection which had left him with \u201climited vision in one eye\u201d.<\/p>\n

He revealed a team of doctors and nurses were helping him to recover.<\/p>\n

But just four days later, Elton was pictured on the back of a golf buggy at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of the Disney+ documentary Elton John: Never Too Late. <\/p>\n

At the end of the screening, he stood by husband David\u2019s side and tearfully told the audience: \u201cThe thing I love about this movie is that I have him and I have my two sons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will hope to keep making music, but I want to be at home with them and see them and treasure them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the greatest feeling I\u2019ve ever had in my life \u2014 more than having a first No1 album on Billboard.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that was really nice for about five minutes, but this is for a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the weeks that followed, Elton released a book titled Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories Of My Life On Tour, promoted his Fragile Beauty photography exhibition and continued to work on his Apple Music radio show.<\/p>\n

He also met Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> at the Downing Street international investment summit and is releasing a single called Never Too Late with Brandi Carlile<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a lot of work for someone seemingly as \u00adfragile as Elton.<\/p>\n

In October, he said: \u201cTo be honest with you, there\u2019s not much of me left. I don\u2019t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have a prostate. I don\u2019t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, the only thing left is my left hip. But I\u2019m still here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elton then told River Cafe founder Ruth Rogers last month that he had to give up sugar due to diabetes.<\/p>\n

On the Ruthie\u2019s Table 4 podcast, he explained: \u201cI can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon.<\/p>\n

‘I CAN’T SEE ANYTHING’<\/h2>\n

\u201cAs long as you\u2019re sensible about it, it doesn\u2019t shoot your blood sugar up. <\/p>\n

“But what I crave is \u00adchocolate and ice cream. I can\u2019t have any ice cream.\u201d<\/p>\n

At least one of Elton\u2019s projects has the potential to raise his blood pressure.<\/p>\n

The Tammy Faye musical, which he co-created with Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears, is to close on Sunday after a month on Broadway.<\/p>\n

It won awards in London, but the venue has often been around a third empty in the US after it was panned by American critics.<\/p>\n

He will be hoping for better from The Devil Wears Prada stage show, which has just opened at London\u2019s Dominion Theatre.<\/p>\n

Elton wrote the music for the adaptation of the 2006 movie, which \u00adstarred Meryl Streep.<\/p>\n

Wearing rose-tinted glasses, he told an audience at the show\u2019s premiere on Sunday: \u201cI haven\u2019t been able to come to many previews because I have lost my eyesight<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“So it\u2019s hard for me to see it.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other sources say that there is no connection between his eye \u00adcondition and his work schedule.<\/p>\n

Losing his vision<\/a> does not seem to be undermining Elton\u2019s plans to release fresh music.<\/p>\n

The singer, who has sold more than 300million records in a career spanning six decades, has written an album with his long-time lyrical collaborator Bernie Taupin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It will be his first since Wonderful Crazy Night more than eight years ago. <\/p>\n

Last year, Elton said it was \u201cfinished\u201d, but it is yet to come out. <\/p>\n

He recently told ABC\u2019s Good Morning America<\/a> that \u201cgoing into the studio and recording\u201d was difficult because \u201cI can\u2019t see a lyric for a start\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elton added: \u201cIt\u2019s never fortunate for anything like this to happen, and it kind of floored me, and I can\u2019t see anything, I can\u2019t read \u00adanything, I can\u2019t watch anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is little doubt that Elton is one of life\u2019s fighters.<\/p>\n

His 1983 hit I\u2019m Still Standing is an anthem that still resonates today, having been streamed on Spotify a billion times.<\/p>\n

Elton managed to overcome a crippling addiction to alcohol and cocaine by going into rehab in 1990.<\/p>\n

Since living a sober life, he has gone from strength to strength.<\/p>\n

Last year, he won an Emmy<\/a> to go with his two Oscars, one Tony award and five Grammys.<\/p>\n

But in his Disney+<\/a> documentary, which starts streaming from December 13, Elton seems to \u00adrecognise his current pace of life may be unsustainable.<\/p>\n
