50 Cent is siding with Drake in the Canadian superstar\u2019s petition against Universal Music Group. On Monday (Dec. 16), during Andrew Schulz\u2019s \u201cFlagrant\u201d podcast, the New York rap legend said he believes every claim laid out in the recent legal action<\/a> with UMG.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything he said they did in that lawsuit, they did it,\u201d 50 Cent said before drawing a parallel to his own experience with G-Unit<\/a> \u2014 previously home to Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck \u2014 and Interscope Records, a UMG subsidiary. \u201cAt Interscope, they delivered [marketing for] G-Unit and G-Unot,\u201d the \u201c21 Questions\u201d hitmaker shared.<\/p>\n Notably, The Game spearheaded a G-Unot boycott campaign after being dropped from G-Unit in the 2000s. According to the West Coast MC, 50 Cent and Jimmy Iovine paid him $1 million to stop<\/a> using the phrase after he trademarked it.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re looking at it like a business completely, not personalizing each individual. They\u2019re just selling music,\u201d 50 Cent told Schulz<\/a> while discussing UMG\u2019s practices. \u201cThey don\u2019t care about [personal relationships]. You\u2019ll [take it] personally because you feel like you made them so much money. They\u2019ll go, \u2018No, it\u2019s not personal at all.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n In November, Drake filed two petitions against UMG. The first alleged that the music conglomerate used bots, payola and other illegal methods to artificially prop up Kendrick Lamar\u2019s \u201cNot Like Us\u201d streams<\/a>. The second legal action was over the company distributing the aforementioned record despite knowing that it \u201cfalsely\u201d accused him of being a pedophile.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the sit-down, Fif discussed why he rides so hard for the “God\u2019s Plan\u201d hitmaker despite Lamar being connected to his circle by way of Dr. Dre. \u201cYou see how [Drake is] lashing at everybody? That doesn\u2019t feel like 50 Cent? That\u2019s what that experience [comes from],\u201d the rap mogul said.<\/p>\n He went on to suggest that the legal actions against UMG are an attempt to block Lamar from performing \u201cNot Like Us\u201d at the Super Bowl LIX<\/a> in February 2025: \u201cIf it\u2019s for what I think it\u2019s for, then I understand it. [Drake is trying] to prevent the song from being played at the Super Bowl because it would do further damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
