{"id":813026,"date":"2024-12-18T23:16:05","date_gmt":"2024-12-19T05:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/18\/health-ministry-issues-advisory-as-concerns-rise-about-tropical-storm\/"},"modified":"2024-12-18T23:16:05","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T05:16:05","slug":"health-ministry-issues-advisory-as-concerns-rise-about-tropical-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/18\/health-ministry-issues-advisory-as-concerns-rise-about-tropical-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"Health ministry issues advisory as concerns rise about Tropical Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<div property=\"schema:text\">\n<p>The Ministry of Health &#038; Wellness has sent out a release advising members of the public that as they continue to prepare for the impending inclement weather condition\/tropical storm, the following precautions should be taken regarding food and water safety, persons with chronic illnesses and pregnant women:<\/p>\n<p>Persons with Chronic Illnesses<br \/>\n\u2022 Persons with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and<br \/>\nasthma, are reminded to have adequate supply of medication and if they have to<br \/>\nevacuate their homes, they must ensure that they take their medications with them to<br \/>\ntheir place of shelter.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 They should continue to take their medications as prescribed by the doctor, while away<br \/>\nfrom home.<\/p>\n<p>Pregnant Women<br \/>\n\u2022 All pregnant women who are within one month of their delivery date should relocate to<br \/>\nfamily or friends, who are in close proximity to a hospital or delivery centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Please note that public hospitals will remain open.<\/p>\n<p>Evacuation<br \/>\nIf you must evacuate your home, certain items should be taken when disaster threatens:<br \/>\n\uf09f Medical supplies: prescriptions, medications and dentures<br \/>\n\uf09f Disaster supplies: flashlights, batteries, radio, first aid kit, bottled water<br \/>\n\uf09f Clothing and bedding: sanitation supplies, (diapers, toilet tissue, soap, feminine hygiene<br \/>\nproducts)<br \/>\n\uf09f Non-perishable foods (canned and dry foods)<br \/>\n\uf09f Special foods (diabetic or baby foods)<br \/>\n\uf09f Important family documents (birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, land titles),<br \/>\npassports, immunization cards<br \/>\n\uf09f Entertainment: games and books<\/p>\n<p>Food Safety<br \/>\n\u2022 Do not store food items with chemicals such as kerosene, bleach, detergents and insect sprays<br \/>\n\u2022 Do not purchase\/use food from tins which have signs of dents, bulges or other damage<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep food items in a dry and cool place<br \/>\n\u2022 Store packages of sugar, flour, rice and crackers in their original package or in tightly<br \/>\nclosed containers<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep a bag with emergency food supply in the event that you have to evacuate your<br \/>\nhome. This should include only canned and dry food items.<br \/>\nWater Safety<br \/>\n\u2022 Store water in a clean covered container.
