{"id":811565,"date":"2024-12-10T21:23:48","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T03:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/10\/4-traits-of-highly-satisfied-people-that-have-nothing-to-do-with-money-health-or-relationships\/"},"modified":"2024-12-10T21:23:48","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T03:23:48","slug":"4-traits-of-highly-satisfied-people-that-have-nothing-to-do-with-money-health-or-relationships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/10\/4-traits-of-highly-satisfied-people-that-have-nothing-to-do-with-money-health-or-relationships\/","title":{"rendered":"4 traits of highly satisfied people that have nothing to do with money, health or relationships"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"MakeItRegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-1\" data-analytics=\"MakeItRegularArticle-articleBody-5-1\">\n<div>\n<p>It can be difficult to feel satisfied with your life when you&#8217;re facing challenges \u2014 but it&#8217;s not impossible.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that whether or not a person is generally satisfied has more to do with their personality than their experiences, according to Ren\u00e9 M\u00f5ttus, editor of the European Journal of Personality.<\/p>\n<p>People with higher salaries, great social fitness and satisfactory health &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41562-018-0307-6\" target=\"_blank\">rate their life satisfaction<\/a> slightly higher than those earning less, lacking strong relationships, or having poor health,&#8221; M\u00f5ttus wrote in an article for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/people-unexplained\/202410\/what-makes-people-satisfied-with-their-lives\" target=\"_blank\">Psychology Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But it is essential to realize that these factors are much weaker than many people may think,&#8221; M\u00f5ttus said.<\/p>\n<p>There are some personality traits that are actually a better predictor of a person&#8217;s life satisfaction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><a id=\"headline0\"><\/a>4 traits of highly satisfied people<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>People who have higher life satisfaction tend to be:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Emotionally stable<\/li>\n<li>Conscientious<\/li>\n<li>Extroverted<\/li>\n<li>Agreeable<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Researchers conducted a <a href=\"https:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/record\/2020-03328-001?doi=1\" target=\"_blank\">meta-analysis<\/a> in 2020 to determine if there was a connection between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/psychology\/five-factor-model-of-personality#:~:text=The%20Big%20Five%20Personality%20Traits&amp;text=The%20five%20personality%20traits%20identified,extraversion%2C%20agreeableness%2C%20and%20neuroticism.\" target=\"_blank\">Big Five personality traits<\/a> and life satisfaction, and found that the above traits closely aligned with greater life satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>This year, M\u00f5ttus and other researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/record\/2024-93961-003?doi=1\" target=\"_blank\">decided to test<\/a> if the results would change if a person&#8217;s personality traits were defined by how they would describe themselves and how their close loved ones would describe them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Besides the Big Five traits of\u00a0emotional stability,\u00a0extroversion, and\u00a0conscientiousness, satisfied people were characterized by feeling understood, excited, and decisive, while less satisfied people tended to feel\u00a0envious,\u00a0bored, used, unable, and unrewarded,&#8221; M\u00f5ttus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/people-unexplained\/202410\/what-makes-people-satisfied-with-their-lives\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These findings indicate that our life&#8217;s circumstances don&#8217;t have to define our life satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s possible to improve your emotional stability, become more conscious of your choices and embrace the other personality traits that lead to greater satisfaction with life.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Want to earn more money at work?<\/strong> Take CNBC&#8217;s new online course <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/cnb.cx\/4h843Gq\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>How to Negotiate a Higher Salary<\/strong><\/em><\/a><em>.
